Job description

Assistant Professor of History
JobDescription: The History program in the Department of Social Sciences atNortheastern State University invites applications for a position as assistant professor(or instructor) in United States history. The ideal candidate will haveacademic specializations in and the ability to teach courses in one or more ofthe following: modern US history, Native American history, the history of theWest, and/or the borderlands. The ability to integrate active learning anddigital resources into the classroom is desired. Willingness to teachface-to-face or online is expected.
Theanticipated start date is January 2027.
Dutiesinclude a 4/4 teaching load, encompassing both U.S. history surveys andupper-level courses in the candidate's areas of specialization. Courses may becross-listed with courses in the department of Cherokee and Indigenous Studies.Candidates should be willing to liaise with student and community organizationsto promote learning activities.
Ph.D. inhistory preferred by time of appointment; ABD considered.
Previousteaching experience preferred.
NortheasternState is located in Tahlequah, about an hour southeast of Tulsa, in the heartof Oklahoma's Green Country and nestled at the foot of the Ozark Mountains. TheUniversity traces its roots back to the founding of the original CherokeeNational Female Seminary in 1851, and the area's rich traditions, heritagesites, and museums offer numerous opportunities for experiential learning.
