What is a courier helper?

Courier Helpers are support workers who assist couriers or delivery drivers in transporting packages, documents, and other items to various destinations. Their duties often include loading and unloading goods, organizing deliveries, obtaining signatures from recipients, and ensuring that deliveries are completed efficiently and safely. Courier Helpers play a vital role in supporting the timely and accurate distribution of items, especially in busy logistics or courier companies. The role typically requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and good communication skills.

What does a courier helper do?

A Courier Helper's day typically starts early, assisting the main courier with loading packages onto the delivery vehicle and organizing them for efficient delivery routes. Throughout the day, Courier Helpers help deliver packages to various locations, carry heavy items, and ensure timely and accurate deliveries by double-checking addresses and handling paperwork or digital confirmations. This role often involves a lot of physical activity and requires teamwork, as Courier Helpers must communicate effectively with the driver and sometimes interact with customers. The fast-paced environment offers valuable experience in logistics and can be a stepping stone to more advanced roles within delivery or warehouse operations.

What is the difference between Courier Helper vs Delivery Driver?

Delivery Drivers operate vehicles to deliver packages or food directly to customers. While both roles are essential in logistics, Delivery Drivers typically have more driving responsibilities and require a valid driver’s license, whereas Courier Helpers focus on physical support tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a courier helper?

To thrive as a Courier Helper, you need physical stamina, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, handheld scanners, and basic logistics software is often required. Strong teamwork, reliability, and effective communication help ensure timely deliveries and smooth coordination with couriers. These skills are critical for maintaining delivery accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment.

Job description

Medical Courier – Personal Vehicle (Full-Time)

Location: San Francisco, CA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour day shift
Pay: Up to $31.64 per hour

Benefits: Free Healthcare Coverage after 60 day waiting period

Make a Difference with Every Delivery

Mercury  is looking for dependable, service-minded drivers to transport time-sensitive healthcare and life sciences shipments throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Our medical couriers help laboratories, healthcare providers, and other organizations receive important packages safely and on time. Previous medical courier experience is not required. If you are reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable driving throughout the Bay Area, we can help you learn the rest.

Mercury is known for solving problems, communicating clearly, and treating every delivery with care.

What We Offer

  • Pay up to $31.64 per hour
  • Free employee healthcare coverage
  • Full-time, W-2 employment—not an independent contractor position
  • Consistent Monday–Friday daytime schedule
  • Stable work with an established logistics company
  • An opportunity to support healthcare and life sciences organizations throughout the Bay Area

What You’ll Do

  • Pick up and deliver healthcare shipments and small parcels using your personal vehicle
  • Follow delivery instructions and maintain proper chain of custody
  • Handle every shipment carefully, professionally, and confidentially
  • Confirm pickups and deliveries using a mobile app
  • Communicate promptly about delays, questions, or unexpected issues
  • Provide friendly, professional service at customer locations
  • Follow all traffic, parking, safety, and company procedures

What We’re Looking For

The strongest candidates are:

  • Dependable and punctual
  • Careful and detail-oriented
  • Professional when interacting with customers
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Calm and resourceful when plans change
  • Committed to safe driving and responsible shipment handling
  • Positive, proactive, and willing to help the team

Medical courier experience is helpful, but it is not required. Experience in delivery, logistics, customer service, hospitality, or another fast-paced environment can also be a great fit.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 21 years old
  • Reliable personal vehicle available for daily deliveries
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current vehicle registration and personal auto insurance
  • Android or iOS smartphone with an active data plan
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation

A conditional offer of employment is subject to job-related background and driving-record checks. Criminal history is considered individually and does not automatically disqualify an applicant.

After a conditional offer, candidates will be asked to provide the required driving documents and professional references.

Ready to Get Started?

If you take pride in being dependable and want work that supports healthcare organizations across the Bay Area, we would like to hear from you. Apply today to join Mercury and make a difference with every delivery.
