What is a county scanner?

A county scanner is a device or application used to listen to live radio transmissions from local government agencies within a county, such as police, fire departments, and emergency medical services. These scanners pick up unencrypted radio frequencies, allowing the public to monitor real-time emergency communications. County scanners are often used by journalists, hobbyists, and concerned citizens to stay informed about events and incidents in their area. Regulations regarding the use of scanners can vary, so it’s important to be aware of local laws.
