Amazon Web Services (AWS) U.S. State and Local Government team is seeking an exceptional Business Development Manager and Strategist with executive-level state government technology leadership experience. This role is specifically designed for former CIOs, CTOs, CDOs, or CISOs who have led digital transformation initiatives in state government and are ready to leverage that expertise to help other government agencies modernize their mission systems.
Key job responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
• Serve as a highly knowledgeable and credible expert and trusted advisor to government executives navigating complex technology modernization roadmaps
• Identify business trends and industry challenges to develop strategy and transformational solutions to help customers accelerate cloud adoption
Business Development and Relationship Management
• Cultivate and nurture relationships with executive business and IT leaders, including Commissioners, Directors, CIOs, and CISOs
• Identify and qualify strategic opportunities within state and local government accounts
• Collaborate with sales teams, solution architects, and partner ecosystem to design winning solutions
• Leverage your government network to open doors and accelerate sales cycles
Solution Design
• Translate complex technical solutions into business outcomes that resonate with government stakeholders
• Address concerns around security, compliance, data sovereignty, and legacy system integration
• Navigate political sensitivities and competing stakeholder interests in large-scale transformation projects
Technical and Business Expertise
• Dive deep into business challenges, propose solutions, and facilitate technical discussions in a fast-paced, demanding environment
• Work with internal teams and partners to build solutions, programs, and frameworks that help authorities modernize and digitally transform their systems
• Identify gaps in solutions and influence joint AWS and partner solution development
Thought Leadership

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience developing and executing on GTM strategies that are large in scope
- Executive Technology Leadership Experience
- 10+ years of demonstrated enterprise-wide technology strategy and operations in state or local government
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
- Deep understanding of government procurement processes, budget cycles, and legislative dynamics
- Proven track record of leading large-scale technology modernization initiatives ($10M+ projects)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Former CIO, CTO, or CISO role at a state agency, county, or large municipality
- Cloud migration or transformation experience in government settings
- Proven track record of managing large-scale IT budgets (minimum $10M+ annually) and multi-year technology roadmaps
- Direct responsibility for technology governance, architecture decisions, and vendor management
- Knowledge of federal and state compliance requirements (FedRAMP, StateRAMP, CJIS, IRS 1075)
- Established network of relationships with state government technology leaders across multiple states

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
