CONTROLLER / HR MANAGER OPPORTUNITY AT DALTON GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

Dalton Golf & Country Club (DGCC) in Dalton, GA, invites accomplished financial and human resources professionals to apply for the role of Controller / HR Manager. This is an opportunity to play a key leadership role at an established, member-owned, 600+ member private club with a respected reputation, a vibrant social membership culture, and a tradition of excellence celebrated for more than seven decades.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Controller / HR Manager is responsible for overseeing the Club’s accounting and financial operations while managing the day-to-day human resource’s function. Accounting is the primary focus of this position, with significant responsibility for employee relations, HR administration, and supervision of the Club’s HR staff.


This position serves as a key partner to the General Manager and department leaders, providing accurate financial information, supporting sound business decisions, and helping ensure compliance with applicable employment practices.


Accounting & Financial Management

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end close.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with the General Manager and department leaders.
  • Monitor departmental performance against budget and provide meaningful financial analysis.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure the integrity of financial records.
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and other required financial reporting.
  • Support cash flow management, banking relationships, and other financial administration.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and operational efficiency.


Human Resources & Employee Relations

  • Supervise and provide leadership to the Club’s HR staff, ensuring effective daily operations and consistent service to employees and managers.
  • Oversee recruiting, hiring, onboarding, employee records, and employment documentation.
  • Support department managers with employee relations, performance management, and corrective action.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate employee benefits administration and support accurate, timely payroll processing.
  • Help foster a positive, professional, and service-oriented workplace culture.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professionalism.


Leadership & Operational Partnership

  • Build positive relationships with department leaders and employees across the Club.
  • Work closely with the General Manager to support financial and operational goals.
  • Provide financial insight and recommendations to assist with staffing, purchasing, capital planning, and other business decisions.
  • Help department leaders understand and manage their financial responsibilities.
  • Participate in management meetings and contribute to the overall leadership of the Club.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and systems that improve efficiency and organizational effectiveness.

 

INITIAL PRIORITIES

  • Build relationships and trust with the General Manager, department leaders, and employees.
  • Evaluate existing accounting, reporting, budgeting, and HR systems and procedures.
  • Establish a clear and consistent monthly financial reporting process.
  • Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and financial accountability.
  • Review payroll, benefits, and employee administration processes.
  • Evaluate HR staff responsibilities and opportunities for improved efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve communication, operational support, and service across departments.


CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, preferably in private clubs, hospitality, resorts, or similar multi-department operations.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing payroll and/or human resources functions.
  • Proven ability to supervise staff and work effectively with department leaders.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze financial information and communicate it clearly to management.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and other business systems.


Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Experience in a private club, resort, hospitality, or similar member-focused environment.
  • Experience with club management software and accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience with annual audits, budgeting, and financial planning.
  • Professional certification such as CPA, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP is a plus.
