Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assembler, shipper, cutter, packer, and material handler fulfilling customer orders and finished goods product replenishment operating lift equipment such as a sit down/standup forklift etc..

  • Be familiar with machine operation, including basic troubleshooting and identification of safety risks.
  • Comply with all plant-wide and machine specific safety rules.
  • Understand and respond to quality control documentation and forms.
  • Comply with relevant company policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate the quality of product and ensure product is of high quality (i.e. proper quantity, size, shipping materials).
  • Keep machine area clean and products off the floor at all times.
  • Be able to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, sitting, bending, lifting, pulling, turning and reaching. For example, the employee has to be able handle work in process materials and finished goods, load and unload product in machines, fill and handle boxes with products onto and off of skids, manually assemble products and handle raw materials. See also table below. The Company will make reasonable accommodations for disabilities if applicable.
  • Dexterity to perform assembly and pack-out movements with proficiency and at rates required.
  • Be able to handle cross-functional tasks; willingness and ability to learn new tasks, such as independently operate one-person machines.
  • Perform other “reasonably related” duties as assigned by immediate supervisor(s) and other management staff as required
  • Hygiene – Maintain proper personal and sanitary hygiene in all areas and at all time.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Experience in material assembly, picking, cutting, packing, manifesting and finished goods put-away within a manufacturing environment. Able to speak, understand read and write English. Good written and oral skills, detailed and results oriented, ability to navigate within the company computer systems, familiar with bill of material structuring basics. Able to complete all company training courses and operate equipment required for this position. Capable of operating material handling equipment including lift trucks. Able to lift 50 lbs.

Company Description

Manton and Cork have been synonymous since 1921. Our company was founded by Sidney Manton in 1921 and has remained a family operated business since.
In the early years, corkwood was imported into the United States for the production of stoppers (taper & straight corks), at our factory in Brooklyn, New York. By 1950 the production of stoppers was concentrated almost exclusively in Portugal and Spain, where a wide variety of cork products were manufactured. We became partners in a major Portuguese factory, specializing in the production of fishing rod grips, custom made industrial and custom made consumer cork products. Our company also established close working relationships with premier cork factories and began importing an endless variety of cork products.
We were soon to become the largest importer of finished and semi-produced cork products in the United States.
By maintaining extensive inventory, we are able to efficiently meet the needs of our customers in the United States, and for export. Jerome Manton has run the company since 1958. He is President of the Cork Institute of America and a former Board Member of the Portugal-U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
