Position Overview

The Clinical Inquiry Specialist-Genetic Counselor is responsible for handling clinical, technical, and scientific inquiries from internal and external clients. They will be relied upon to follow all department protocols and to identify and report problems or issues to the Clinical Inquiry Specialist Manager.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide clinical expertise to laboratory staff and molecular geneticists with accessioning inquiries, test order modifications, and results interpretation.

  • Collaborate with molecular geneticists and other departments to provide high quality, timely test results and to achieve other organizational goals and objectives.

  • Contribute to marketing and business development by assisting in the writing of marketing materials and website content, promoting the company at scientific meetings and industry conferences, and networking with other genetic counselors.

  • Support client and public education through the development of educational materials and public speaking.

  • Maintain professional certification through ongoing education.

  • Facilitate intake and implementation of Special Projects.

  • Perform specialized tasks beyond standard genetic counselor duties.

  • Assist with training genetic counseling assistants.

  • Deep and broad knowledge of human genetics.

  • General understanding of personalized health care and the rapidly changing practices of clinical genetics, laboratory medicine, and informatics.

  • Ability to tailor, translate, and communicate complex information in a simple, relevant way to a broad range of audiences.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Interest in promoting teamwork, collaboration, and consensus-building.

  • Ability to dissect and analyze a complex problem.

  • Visual acuity is required to view the computer screen and patient records.

  • The physical ability to stand or sit for up to 50 minutes during each hour is necessary in order to perform laboratory and computer tasks.

  • Hearing acuity is required to receive warnings of laboratory danger and to hear telephones, door bells and security alarms.

  • The ability to maneuver through out the building is necessary to access computers, printers, laboratories and personnel.

  • Ability to work designated schedule.

  • Will work within standard office and genetic testing laboratory areas.

  • Some local and overnight travel is required to meet with clients and attend conferences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Genetic Counseling.

  • ABGC/CCGC Board Certified or eligible.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in a Pediatric, Prenatal, MFM/NICU, or Adult (Cardio/Neuro) Genetics clinical role.

  • Experience with whole genome and whole exome testing.

Salary Range:

$84,000.00 - $130,000.00

The annual base salary shown is a national range for this position on a full-time basis and may differ by hiring location. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
