Job description

Job Summary
A licensed Aesthetician provides prescribed skin treatment and personal care services to patients in
clinic, under the clinical supervision of a licensed medical provider by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care Duties:
  • Provides various skin treatments for patients referred by Physicians that may include
    • Skin peels, various
    • Microdermabrasian procedures
    • Laser hair removal, body & facial hair
    • Cosmetic treatments
    • Various other procedures that require physician oversight
  • Prepares patients for treatment, positions instruments and equipment, interviews patients, explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension, maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
  • Observes each patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies physician of the patient's condition and reaction to treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Records all pertinent information in patients' chart, accurately codes all services provided.
  • Consults with patients regarding skin care needs, procedures, outcomes, problems, etc.
  • Assists providers as needed with patients' skin care.
  • Oversees and provides skin care and cosmetic products for patients.
  • Maintains inventory of products; orders products, and reports on sales of products.

General Duties:
  • Sets up examination rooms for procedures, assembles and uses equipment as necessary for this role
  • Maintains examination rooms, cleans rooms after each patient, sterilizes equipment, and weekly "scrub down" of all examination rooms.
  • Inventories all medical supplies, maintains appropriate supply inventory in examination rooms, stocks examination rooms with all needed equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains all medical instruments for quality.
  • Receives, cleans, and repackages reusable instruments, marked with expiration dates.
  • Arranges for replacement or refurbishment of reusable instruments.
  • Adheres to all OSHA regulations and universal precautions, including waste and sharps disposal.
  • Maintains knowledge of OSHA regulations and use of universal precautions as appropriate
  • Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.
  • Cross train and provide coverage for front desk check in/out as necessary at the request of the practice manager.
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.
  • Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of the organization

Experience Requirements
  • Minimum one year of work experience in a medical office, or three to six months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable
  • Management and organizational skills to support the leadership of this function
  • Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations
  • Interpersonal skills to support customer service, functional, and team mate support needs
    • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Basic knowledge of medical billing coding, including CPT and ICD-9 coding, preferred.
  • Mathematical and/or analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solving
  • Basic to intermediate computer operation
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Specialty knowledge of systems relating to job function
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelines
