Job Title: Product Engineer (Battery Electrode Materials / Coatings) Location: Somerset, NJ (Onsite) Type: Contract-to-Hire Hours: 8:00 AMโ5:00 PM or 9:00 AMโ6:00 PM (Flexible) Pay: $28โ$36/hr DOE Overview A specialty materials company focused on advanced battery materials and nanotechnology. The company develops and manufactures materials used in lithium-ion and next-generation battery technologies. Ideal for candidates with academic research (batteries / chemistry oriented), internships, co-ops, or industry experience involving formulation development, powder processing, slurry preparation, coatings, materials characterization, and process scale-up. What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and support manufacturing of battery electrode materials and formulations.
- Formulate and process active materials, conductive carbons, and binder systems.
- Prepare and optimize powders, dispersions/slurries, and coated films.
- Characterize materials to evaluate quality, morphology, and performance.
- Support development of both established and next-generation battery materials intended for commercialization.
- Document experimental results and collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams.
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with powders, slurries, dispersions, coatings, films, formulations, or materials processing.
- Knowledge of wet chemistry, solid-state chemistry, or materials characterization techniques.
- Strong laboratory, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience
- Electrode processing, including slurry formulation, mixing, rheology, coating, drying, calendering, tape casting, or doctor blade techniques.
- Battery materials such as cathodes, anodes, conductive additives, electrolytes, or binder systems.
- Materials characterization techniques including particle size analysis, BET, SEM, XRD, DSC/TGA, or similar methods.
- Experience with scale-up, process development, and manufacturing environments.
