Job description

Home Health Aide (HHA incl. STNA, CNA, PCA, or DoDD DSP)
SCHEDULE TYPE:ย PRN Only / As Needed

  • PRN = No Guaranteed Hours. *See PRN Notice below.

  • Most PRN Shifts occur onย Weekdays (M-F) during Daytime Hours (between 7-8 AM to 5/6 PM)

    • You do not need to be available every weekday, every week, or for the entire daytime window; however, you must have availability for at least some weekday daytime shifts.

    • Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be available but are uncommon.

    • Applicants seeking only evening, overnight, or weekend shifts cannot be considered at this time.

  • PRN caregivers must accept at least 50% of cases offered within their stated availability and desired hours to remain Active and must work at least one case every 14 days (with exceptions when advanced notice is given).

  • While not guaranteed, existing employees including PRNs will receive priority consideration for additional hours, recurring schedules, part-time positions, and full-time opportunities as they become available and if desired.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Home Health Aide (HHA) requirements:

    • Either Active CNA or STNA certification + 2 or more years of paid experience

    • Or Active DSP Certification from Ohio DODD + 2or more years of experience caring for persons with disabilities AND willingness to care for non-DODD clients.

    • Or +3 or more years of paid home health experience for HHA or PCA without certification.

  • Additional Medication Certifications, Hoyer lift experience, specific disease-state care experience, etc., are highly desirable but not required.

JOB LOCATION & TRAVEL:ย This role serves clients in Coshocton, Ohio and surrounding areas in Coshocton County and adjacent counties within committed travel radius.

  • Willingness to travel to clients up to a 25-minute radius (from your home) is required.

  • Up to 45- or 60-minute client travel radius (from your home) is highly desired.

  • Additional PRN, Part-Time hours or Full-time hours may be available for Aides willing to travel to adjacent and nearby counties beyond 1 hour (not required).

CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a positive attitude, strong caregiving skills, and a compassionate mindset. Awareness that PRN caregivers often serve as substitutes for a client's regular caregiver is critical, as clients may be hesitant, nervous, frustrated, or uncomfortable with someone new in their home, or may have dementia, memory loss, behavioral challenges, behavioral challenges, mental health conditions, or past trauma.ย 

    • The ideal candidate remains calm, respectful, dependable, emotionally mature, and reassuring, builds trust quickly, communicates professionally, and provides excellent care in challenging situations.

  • Must be comfortable working in a variety of home environments, including homes with pets, smoke odors, clutter, family members or roommates present, and other common residential conditions. Caregivers must remain professional, respectful, and focused on client care while adapting to different home environments.

  • Must maintain flexibility to accept assignments based on client and business needs within their stated availability.ย PRN schedules may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, short-notice assignments, as well as varying shift lengths, schedules, and client assignments.

  • Must complete all required documentation accurately, thoroughly, and on time, including care notes, visit records, EVV requirements, incident reporting, and other client-related documentation.

    • Accurate and timely documentation is a condition of employment, to ensure timely payroll processing and quality assurance for our clients.ย Failure to complete required documentation accurately and within compliance standards or deadlines may delay payroll processing and compensation.

While we work hard to offer available shifts whenever possible, we cannot guarantee any minimum number of hours, shifts, clients, or earnings. Work opportunities may increase or decrease based on client needs, census, authorizations, staffing levels, employee availability, geographic service area needs, and other business factors.ย As a result, hours are not guaranteed, and the number of hours worked may vary from week to week.

Because PRN staff often work independently and may need to step into client assignments with limited notice, applicants must have at least three (3) years of paid home health experience.

STARTING PAY RATE:

  • STNA, CNA & DSP: $16 - $19 per hour
  • HHA, PCA & CHHA: $15 - $18 per hour

Hourly Pay is based on experience, travel, qualifications and certifications, skill specializations, positive employment & job tenure history, positive professional references, and overall client & team fit. HCN pays weekly, on Fridays, via direct deposit into your bank account.


FULL REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Home Health Aide (HHA) requirements:
    • Either Active CNA or STNA certification + 2 or more years of paid experience
    • Or Active DSP Certification from Ohio DODD + 2or more years of experience caring for persons with disabilities AND willingness to care for non-DODD clients.

  • Successful completion of HCN's written skills test and/or competency evaluation.
  • Meet/Completion of all training and/or certifications required by the state in which the home health aide services are being provided. This includes specifications of contracted agencies for which services are being provided.
  • CPR and First Aide Certifications (active/current certs preferred but may also be obtained prior to hire date through HCN or accredited third party).
  • Ability to perform all typical physical tasks (listed below) on a regular basis, and willingness to do so safely, including:ย 
    • Frequent: standing, walking, stopping, ending
    • Infrequent: squatting/kneeling, balancing
    • Pushing and handling weight/force: 1-20 lbs. frequently, 20-30 lbs. occasionally, and 30-50 lbs. infrequently
    • Lifting and carrying: 1-20 lbs. frequently, 20-30 lbs. occasionally, 30-50 lbs. infrequently
  • Willingness and aptitude to perform light housekeeping in addition to patient care services as needed.
  • Strong track record of attendance, dependability, and employment retention with previous employers.
  • Good interpersonal skills and compassion for helping others live their best lives.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and follow a written Plan of Care, incorporating attention to detail in following instructions, documenting notes, and communicating with our agency.
  • Professional character traits: reliable, honest beyond reproach, punctual, articulate, compassionate, detail-oriented (in care + documentation), accountable, friendly and accommodating, respectful, self-driven, problem-solver, compliant, and confidential.
  • Be at lease eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Valid driver's license/ID and reliable transportation to/from client care locations.

  • Specialized certification or training program, such as DODD-DSP, Med Certification, EMR/EHR, etc.
  • EMR/EHR experience and proficiency (ContinuLink highly desirable).
