Job description

Marin Water is looking for a motivated Corrosion Control Technician I/II to join our Operations team. In this role, you'll help safeguard critical water infrastructure by installing, inspecting, testing, and maintaining corrosion control and cathodic protection systems. From underground pipelines to storage tanks and reservoirs, your work will play a vital role in ensuring the long-term reliability of Marin Water's facilities.

Salary Ranges Effective 7/13/2026: Corrosion Control Technician I $8,686 - $10,417 Monthly Corrosion Control Technician II $9,891 - $12,135 Monthly Position may be filled at either level dependent on candidate qualifications and the current needs of the department.

Positions at the Corrosion Control Technician I level may perform some of these duties and responsibilities in a learning capacity. Typical duties may include but are not limited to the following: Installs, inspects the installation of, maintains and adjusts cathodic protection systems to ensure proper level of operation.

Gathers information and physically locates underground pipes, cables and facilities. Inspects protective coatings for water facilities such as tanks, pipes and other distribution reservoirs for maintenance and preventive maintenance. Evaluates protective coating conditions, determine corrective measures and make recommendations for appropriate maintenance and preventive maintenance.

Makes field and laboratory surveys of soil resistivity and physical characteristics for determining environmental corrosivity or interference with other buried structures. Determines adequacy of electrical insulators and connections during construction and electrical continuity after construction. Prepares and maintains accurate logs, records and drawings of corrosion control and test data; advises field inspection personnel.

Maintains accurate records and prepares reports. Follows applicable safety rules and regulations with particular emphasis on confined space entry. Monitors contract development and carries out duties to complete projects for corrosion control related programs.

Participates in the training of other technicians or inspectors. Experience & Qualifications Positions at the Corrosion Control Technician I level may exercise some of these knowledge and abilities statements in a learning capacity. Knowledge of: Fundamentals of corrosion control, including electrical measurements, alternating and direct current circuits; principles and usage of algebra; instruments used in the performance of corrosion control installation and maintenance; protective coating systems application and inspection techniques; conductivity or resistivity soils testing; construction methods and materials used in water piping system; word processing, basic spreadsheet and database computer applications; and proper use of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Ability to: Perform standard laboratory tests; read and understand construction drawings, maps, plans and specifications; perform accurate mathematical calculations; safely and efficiently use laboratory, field equipment and materials; conduct failure analyses related to corrosion control, and draw conclusions and make recommendation for corrective action; Operate a personal computer to enter and access information; prepare and maintain accurate records and reports; communicate and work effectively with those contacted in the course of work; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; work safely on below-ground-level projects and in confined spaces; work safely at high elevations, on scaffolds, ladders, storage tanks, vehicular and buildings; work in a variety of terrains and outdoors in all weather conditions; travel to alternative work locations and off-site meetings; and drive a vehicle. Training and Experience: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Corrosion Control Tecnician I: Completion of twelfth grade or its equivalent, and completion of course work in electronics, chemistry or other related field or recognized professional training in corrosion control.

OR Completion of the twelfth grade or its equivalent; one year of experience in operation and maintenance at a water, wastewater, gas, oil or equivalent industry. Licenses and/or Certifications: Possession of an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Possession of a valid D1 Distribution Operator certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) is required to pass probation.

Successful completion of the Cathodic Protection Tester (CP1) certification issued by the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) is required to pass probation. Corrosion Control Technician II: Completion of the twelfth grade or its equivalent, and two years' experience performing the duties and meeting the requirements equivalent to that of a Corrosion Control Technician I; OR Completion of the twelfth grade or its equivalent and completion of certified and acceptable college-level courses and/or recognized professional training in electronics, chemistry and electrical measurement or other related field, and one year of experience performing the duties equivalent to that of a Corrosion Control Technician I working in the maintenance and operations of water, wastewater, oil, gas or similar system. Licenses and/or Certifications: Possession of an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

Possession of a valid Cathodic Protection Tester (CP1) certification issued by the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) is required. Possession of a valid D1 Distribution Operator certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) is required to pass probation. Possession of a valid Cathodic Protection Technician (CP2) certification issued by the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) is required to pass probation.
