Company Description The Law Office of Stacy Scheff is a small, client-focused practice committed to delivering high-quality legal representation and advocacy for incarcerated people in Arizona.

Role Description The Associate Attorney will work on-site in Tucson, AZ in a full-time capacity, handling a range of matters from initial client intake through resolution. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, motions, and memoranda, and preparing correspondence, and setting up calls/visits with incarcerated people. The role involves advising clients on their rights and options, negotiating settlements when appropriate, and representing clients in hearings, mediations, and other proceedings. The Associate Attorney will collaborate with the principal attorney on case strategy, manage case files, track deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation. The position also includes participating in client meetings, reviewing and organizing evidence, and supporting outreach or educational efforts related to the firmโ€™s practice areas.

Qualifications

  • Experience or strong interest in Prisoners' Civil Rights and related actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice to clients.
  • Proficient in legal Research, including case law, statutes, and administrative guidance.
  • Effective Negotiation skills for settlements, agreements, and dispute resolution.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in Arizona (or ability to obtain in a reasonable timeframe).
  • Excellent written and oral communication, including precise drafting and confident courtroom advocacy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, client confidentiality, and respectful, inclusive interaction with clients and colleagues.
  • Prior experience in a law firm, clinic, or judicial internship is beneficial.
