PRN Rx Pharmacy Technician - Full Time Technician in the futureREPORTS TO: Retail Pharmacy Pharmacists

JOB SUMMARY: Report and work only under the authority of a state registered pharmacist in all activities required to provide optimal patient care. Activities include, but are not limited to the following: process prescription information through the applicable computer system; remove stock bottles of medications from the shelves in order to prepare prescriptions for dispensing; count out necessary medication for dispensing; label all necessary containers for prescription dispensing; maintain daily patient records and information through the applicable computer and manual systems; release and/or deliver prescriptions to a patient or patient's designated agent (only after final check has been performed by licensed pharmacist); and only perform or engage in pharmacy activities not expressly designated to a licensed pharmacist.

DEPARTMENT SUPERVISION: Director of Laboratory and Pharmacy Services

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist prepare all prescription medications for dispensing.

Preparing a prescription may include: accurate interpretation and processing of prescription information through appropriate computer system, removing stock bottles from shelves and counting out appropriate medications, labeling all necessary containers for prescription dispensing, and insuring that prescription is checked by a pharmacist before being released to a patient.

Maintain and generate patient reports and records through the applicable computer system.

Maintain appropriate prescription records.

Maintain adequate medication inventories and pharmacy supplies.

Maintaining inventories includes, but is not limited to: ordering, receiving, unpacking, recording and storing all medications and pharmacy supplies, as well as filing invoices appropriately.

Contribute to the effective operation of the pharmacy department, which requires accurate interpretation of prescription information, as well as accurate recording of patient information, medications, allergies, and third party information.

Conduct inventory of all medication as required, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

Responsible for daily filing and orderly maintenance of prescription hard copies, invoices from distributors, and any necessary reports.

Responsible for maintenance of prior authorization information for individual patients. Technician will become familiar with all third party plans and comfortable handling all prior authorizations for the retail pharmacy.

Record and maintaining refrigerator temperature monitoring logs.

Demonstrate acceptable oral and written communication skills and courteous telephone operating skills.

Organize and prioritize work assignments, manage workflow, and assist the pharmacist as necessary.

Maintain current technician certification by completing all competence/skill assessment testing and attend continuing education programs. A true and correct copy of renewal certificate must be provided.

Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Licenses: Current Pharmacy technician certification from the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Experience: One to two years of retail pharmacy experience preferred but not required.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS OR SKILLS REQUIRED:

Must be computer keyboard knowledgeable and literate (typing 45-50 words per minute) Must accurately spell and type patient information onto manual and computer records Able to lift 50 pounds Bilingual recommended
