Copyediting Internship Jobs in Texas (NOW HIRING)

Copyediting Internship information

What types of projects and content will I typically work on during a Copyediting Internship?

As a Copyediting Intern, you will usually have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of materials, including articles, blog posts, marketing copy, and sometimes technical documents, depending on the organization's focus. Interns are often assigned to review drafts for grammar, punctuation, clarity, and adherence to style guides, while collaborating with writers and senior editors for feedback and revisions. This hands-on exposure helps you develop a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of editorial standards. The variety and volume of content can be challenging but also provide a valuable learning experience that prepares you for advanced editorial roles.

What is a copyediting internship?

A copyediting internship is a temporary position, often for students or recent graduates, where you gain practical experience in editing written content for grammar, style, clarity, and consistency. Interns work under the supervision of experienced editors, learning to spot and correct errors, follow specific style guides, and ensure the overall quality of publications. These internships are common in publishing houses, media organizations, and communications departments, and they help build foundational skills for a career in editing or writing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Copyediting Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Copyediting Intern, you need excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills, as well as a strong grasp of editorial standards, often demonstrated through studies in English, journalism, or communications. Familiarity with style guides like AP or Chicago Manual of Style and proficiency in editing software such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs are typically required. Attention to detail, time management, and the ability to accept and act on feedback are crucial soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure accurate, polished content and help maintain the quality and consistency of published materials.

What is the difference between Copyediting Internship vs Editorial Assistant?
