Their role often includes enhancing developer workflows by leveraging these AI tools, contributing to codebases, and ensuring that AI-generated code meets quality and security standards. They may also provide feedback to improve Copilot's suggestions and help teams adopt AI-assisted development practices. Copilot Developers often have strong programming skills and a deep understanding of how to effectively collaborate with AI tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Copilot Developer?

To thrive as a Copilot Developer, a strong background in software engineering, proficiency in languages such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript, and experience with AI/ML concepts are essential, often supported by a relevant degree. Job description

Vice President, Full-Stack Java/AI Engineer
At BNY, our culture allows us to run our company better and enables employees' growth and success. As a leading global financial services company at the heart of the global financial system, we influence nearly 20% of the world's investible assets. Every day, our teams harness cutting-edge AI and breakthrough technologies to collaborate with clients, driving transformative solutions that redefine industries and uplift communities worldwide.
Recognized as a top destination for innovators and champions of inclusion, BNY is where bold ideas meet advanced technology and exceptional talent. Together, we power the future of finance - and this is what #LifeAtBNY is all about. Join us and be part of something extraordinary.
We're seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Java/AI Engineer to join our Enterprise Data & Solutions Engineering team. This role is located in Lake Mary, Florida, FL
In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
  • Lead 2-3 member PODs as hands-on technical lead: own solution design, coding standards, code reviews, and performance tuning for Java/Spring Boot microservices.
  • Translate product objectives into clear technical plans, acceptance criteria, and architectural guardrails; ensure designs optimize reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Integrate AI capabilities into application workflows (e.g., inference endpoints, prompt orchestration, RAG, embeddings/vector search) with guardrails, auditability, and latency budgets.
  • Design resilient data access patterns (Oracle preferred and other RDBMS): schema modeling, query/index optimization, transactions/locking, and connection pool tuning.
  • Champion DevSecOps and accelerated delivery: build CI/CD pipelines, automated tests, environment promotion strategies, and safe rollout/rollback targeting an aspirational one-week Idea→Production.
  • Establish integration standards (REST/GraphQL APIs, Kafka/event-driven components, OAuth2/OIDC, mTLS) and resilience patterns (retry, circuit breaker, bulkhead).
  • Drive SRE practices: define SLIs/SLOs, instrument services (logs, metrics, traces), optimize JVM/heap/GC, and lead incident response to reduce MTTR.
  • Conduct design/threat modeling reviews, performance benchmarks, and production readiness assessments; make clear go/no-go decisions with risk trade-offs.
  • Mentor engineers across PODs; elevate code quality, documentation (ADRs, runbooks), backlog hygiene, and measurable continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with product, platform, security, data/AI, and infrastructure teams to convert business goals into technical roadmaps and outcomes aligned with BNY's principles (Be Client Obsessed, Spark Progress, Own It, Stay Curious, Thrive Together).

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required
  • 5-9 years of hands-on software engineering experience delivering Java/Spring/Spring Boot systems in production.
  • Strong expertise and in depth knowledge of Java, Spring Framework (Spring MVC, Spring Boot), design patterns, Microservices architecture, and Restful APIs
  • Experience in AI Code Assist Technologies (CoPilot, Claude Code, Windsurf,..)
  • Strong understanding of AI agent architecture, solid grounding and prompt engineering
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, best practice for coding and Agile development
  • Proficient in automating CI/CD pipelines on large container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Batch Monitoring & Job scheduling tools like Airflow, Autosys & Control M.
  • Proficient in scripting and SQL, Stored Procedures and transaction management
  • Demonstrated integration of AI capabilities into production workflows with responsible-use controls.
  • Strong RDBMS expertise (Oracle preferred) and data-access performance tuning at scale.
  • Practical DevOps/CI/CD automation enabling rapid, reliable releases (aspirational one-week Idea→Production).
