Lead Java Developer with AI experience

Location: Atlanta, GA

Type: Fulltime

Summary

 

We are seeking an experienced Lead Java Developer with 10+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years in a technical leadership role, to design and deliver enterprise-scale applications. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java 17+, Spring Boot, Microservices, JBoss, and cloud-native application development. The role requires hands-on experience in migrating enterprise applications from Java 8 to Java 17, modernizing legacy systems, and leveraging AI-powered developer tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, and ChatGPT to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and delivery efficiency.

The successful candidate will lead a team of developers, drive technical decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing applications.

Responsibilities

 

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Microservices.
  • Lead the modernization of legacy Java applications, including migration from Java 8 to Java 17, resolving compatibility issues, upgrading dependencies, and optimizing application performance.
  • Design, develop, and optimize RESTful APIs and microservices for scalability, resilience, and high availability.
  • Deploy, configure, and manage applications on JBoss EAP/WildFly application servers.
  • Collaborate with UI teams to integrate backend services with modern front-end technologies such as React.js, Angular, or Node.js.
  • Lead architecture discussions, perform code reviews, and establish engineering best practices.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable automated build, testing, deployment, and release processes.
  • Deploy and manage cloud-native applications on AWS (Azure or Google Cloud Platform experience is a plus).
  • Utilize Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
  • Design efficient database solutions using relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Implement messaging solutions using Kafka and/or ActiveMQ.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while ensuring application reliability and performance.
  • Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership across Agile teams.
  • Utilize AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, and ChatGPT for code generation, refactoring, debugging, documentation, test creation, and productivity improvements while maintaining engineering standards and code quality.
  • Ensure application security, scalability, observability, and compliance with enterprise development standards.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of Java application development experience.
  • 2+ years of experience leading development teams or serving as a Technical Lead.
  • Strong expertise in Java 17+, Core Java, Collections, Concurrency, Multithreading, and JVM internals.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Microservices Architecture.
  • Proven experience migrating enterprise applications from Java 8 to Java 17, including JDK upgrades, dependency modernization, code refactoring, and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with JBoss EAP/WildFly administration, deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
  • Strong experience developing RESTful APIs and distributed enterprise applications.
  • Experience with React.js, Angular, or Node.js, along with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Strong experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
  • Experience with messaging platforms including Kafka and ActiveMQ.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI.
  • Strong knowledge of Git version control and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience writing automated unit and integration tests using JUnit, Mockito, and Spring Test.
  • Hands-on experience using Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, and AI-assisted development tools to improve software engineering productivity.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Exposure to Golang is a plus.
  • Experience with Spring Cloud, API Gateway, Service Discovery, and Resilience4j.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Splunk.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
  • Experience with SonarQube, Checkmarx, or similar code quality and security tools.
  • AWS certification or other cloud certifications are preferred.
