Physician Medical Director – Outpatient Family Practice or Internal Medicine

Location: Greater Memphis, TN

Compensation:

  • Base Salary: $290K – $320K before productivity bonus

  • Estimated Total Compensation: $314K – $416K (after productivity bonuses)

Position Overview

A mission-driven healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Family Practice or Internal Medicine Physician to serve as Medical Director at a busy, community-focused outpatient wellness clinic. You’ll join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering accessible, high-quality care to patients across the Jacksonville area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage a minimum of 14 patients per 8-hour shift (or 7 per half day); adjusted proportionally for longer shifts.

  • Oversee patient scheduling to reduce no-shows and maintain productivity targets.

  • Complete all documentation same day or within 72 hours, with accurate E&M coding.

  • Provide comprehensive primary care for both chronic and acute conditions (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, asthma, COPD, infections, HIV, STIs, UTIs, etc.).

  • Collaborate with front office, nursing, and care coordination teams to manage urgent and walk-in visits.

  • Review and act promptly on consults, labs, and imaging reports.

  • Approve and process prescription renewals within 72 hours.

  • Respond daily to patient communications and support retention initiatives.

  • Supervise and review charts for mid-level providers (NPs/PAs) as required.

  • Participate in after-hours on-call coverage as assigned.

  • Maintain AAHIVM certification (within 18 months of hire).

  • Receive 4 hours of protected administrative time weekly per policy.

Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O. with an active and unrestricted state medical license.

  • Valid DEA and Furnishing License.

  • Minimum 2 years of outpatient primary care experience.

  • Ability to manage 14–18 patients daily in a well-supported environment.

  • AAHIVM Certification required within 18 months of hire.

  • Current CPR/BLS certification.

Education & Skills
  • Doctorate (M.D. or D.O.); board certification preferred.
