Sentara is hiring Registered Nurses for our PRISM Awarded Medical Specialties Unit at Norfolk General in Norfolk, VA.

Shifts Hiring: Day and Night Shifts.

Department Overview

We are the first in the Sentara System and second in the State of Virginia to win the PRISM Award (Premiere Recognition in the Specialty of Med‑Surg). Our unit is recognized for our collective achievements and contributions to the safe, high‑quality care we deliver to our patients on a daily basis.

Combined, our team members have 20+ years certified as medical surgical nurses. We are a 42‑bed Medical Specialties Unit. Our diverse patient population includes CHF, Sickle Cell, Renal Failure, Vascular, Sepsis, COPD, Pneumonia, Osteomyelitis with surgical interventions, Wound Care, and various disease processes.

We have one main nursing station and seven substations. We utilize EPIC with integration to reduce data entry time. We emphasize teamwork and communication via walkie‑talkies.

Overview

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care—including teaching and health promotion—and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice / nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

All direct care RNs are required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
