Job Description:ย 
Roy C. Garrett Company is seeking an experienced Lead Cooling Tower Technician to join our field operations team. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with crew leadership, serving as the primary point of accountability for quality, safety, and efficiency on every job site. The Lead Technician works directly on cooling tower systems while guiding and mentoring crew members, and also supports business development by conducting site assessments for quote generation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:ย ย 
Leadership & Crew Oversight

  • Lead, direct, and mentor field crew members on all assigned job sites
  • Delegate tasks to maximize crew efficiency and ensure project deadlines are met
  • Enforce safety protocols, PPE requirements, and compliance standards at all times
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the field crew and project management
  • Conduct on-site meetings as necessary and document daily work activities
Technical Field Work
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on cooling tower systems
  • Execute service and cleaning of cooling towers to maintain peak operational efficiency
  • Replace fill media, drift eliminators, hot deck basins, and related components
  • Perform gearbox and motor changes, including alignment and commissioning
  • Complete trim-outs and structural repairs to restore tower integrity
  • Manage and execute full cooling tower rebuilds from tear-down through commissioning
  • Diagnose mechanical, structural, and operational issues and implement effective solutions
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and parts documentation
  • Ability to foresee and mitigate potential issues / challenges through proactive planning
Business Development Support
  • Visit prospective customer sites to assess cooling tower condition and service scope
  • Document site findings with photos, measurements, and observations to support accurate quote generation
  • Communicate site conditions and recommendations clearly to estimating and management staff
  • Represent RCG professionally with existing and prospective clients

Experience and Requirements:ย ย 
Required
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on cooling tower service, maintenance, or construction experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading a crew or acting in a supervisory field capacity
  • Proficiency with mechanical components including gearboxes, motors, and drive shafts
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and work orders
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to operate company vehicles
  • Comfort working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ lbsย and perform the demands of sustained field labor
Preferred
  • Experience with full cooling tower rebuilds and fill replacement projects
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training
  • Background in industrial construction, HVAC, or mechanical contracting
  • Familiarity with water treatment principles as they relate to tower performance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer-facing site visits
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Physical Demands:ย 
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb ladders, work on rooftops, and in confined spaces
  • Capable of standing, crawling, and working in various weather conditions
