The ideal candidate is passionate about preparing nutritious, appealing meals for our residents while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and quality. Experience in a skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, hospital, or long-term care setting is preferred.

Position Summary

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals according to established menus, recipes, dietary requirements, and food safety standards. In the absence of the Dietary Supervisor, the Cook may assist with overseeing kitchen operations and ensuring smooth daily meal service.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Prepare nutritious, high-quality meals for residents in accordance with planned menus and recipes
  • Cook and serve food in large quantities while maintaining taste, consistency, and presentation standards
  • Prepare therapeutic and modified diets, including pureed foods, as directed
  • Follow portion control guidelines and dietary restrictions
  • Record and monitor food temperatures in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area
  • Ensure sanitizer buckets contain appropriate quaternary solution levels
  • Assist with meal service and delivery as needed
  • Clean cooking equipment, serving carts, and work areas after meal service
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing, dietary, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Assist with orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff when needed
  • Report resident concerns or potential issues to leadership promptly
  • Follow all federal, state, local, and facility food safety regulations
QualificationsRequired
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year of cooking experience in a healthcare facility, skilled nursing facility, hospital, rehabilitation center, or long-term care setting
  • Ability to read and follow recipes and production sheets
  • Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and safe food handling practices
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred
  • ServSafe Certification
  • Experience with PCC dietary software
  • Experience preparing therapeutic and special diets
Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
