Job description

Job Title: Production Operator โ€“ Automated Conveyor and Battery Materials Handling

Job Description

This role focuses on safely unpackaging battery cell components from automated guided vehicles, loading them onto computerized conveyor systems, and supporting a consistent flow of materials into the assembly process. You will perform repetitive yet precise tasks in a clean, climate-controlled environment, ensuring that all parts meet quality standards while following established procedures and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Unpackage battery cell components from automated guided vehicles (AGVs), including items such as aluminum cans, top caps, Mylar wrapping, connectors, and other materials, and load them onto conveyor systems.
  • Place components on the conveyor system, operate the controls (including the start or โ€œgoโ€ function), and ensure materials move accurately and efficiently to the downstream assembly area.
  • Safely operate and monitor computerized automated conveyors in the battery material unpacking room to maintain a consistent production flow.
  • Repack parts from supplier-provided containers into designated production containers and load these materials into the automated conveyor system.
  • Perform light assembly tasks as needed while unpackaging and preparing materials for the assembly process.
  • Conduct thorough visual inspections of raw materials to confirm they meet quality standards, and promptly identify, isolate, and report any defects.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and established operating guidelines to maintain production consistency and safety.
  • Assist with training new production operators by demonstrating correct processes and reinforcing SOPs and best practices.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on automated conveyors, identify issues or malfunctions, and report them to maintenance personnel for resolution.
  • Record production data accurately, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and report any discrepancies or abnormalities to supervisors.
  • Collect and analyze data, inspect products and processes, conduct basic tests, assist with research and development activities, and document results.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures at all times, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes and safety vests.
  • Complete daily cleaning tasks and support 5S activities (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
  • Collaborate closely with other team members to support continuous improvement, efficient production, and a positive team environment.
  • Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned by leadership to support production and operational goals.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of recent manufacturing experience in a repetitive setting such as assembly, packaging, or machine/production operation.
  • Demonstrated work stability with at least 2 or more years of tenure at a previous job and a strong record of reliability.
  • Experience performing repetitive tasks while maintaining high quality and consistency.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain quality standards during high-volume, repetitive work.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry, system monitoring, and working with production-related software or interfaces.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment with repetitive tasks and time-sensitive workflows.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with peers, trainers, and supervisors.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Comfort with learning and using new technology, including automated and computerized production equipment.
  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions accurately and consistently.
  • Capability to perform basic troubleshooting and recognize when to escalate equipment issues to maintenance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 3 years of directly related work experience in troubleshooting or hands-on work within an automation or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience working with automated machines or conveyors, including basic diagnostics and adjustments, is preferred.
  • Background in manufacturing, quality, or production operations, including inspection and machine operation.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, process improvement, or 5S practices.
  • Experience in general labor, packaging, inspection, or assembly roles within a production environment.
  • Supervisory or lead experience, or exposure to production supervision, is considered a plus.
  • Strong management or organizational skills that support efficient task planning and prioritization.
  • Comfort working with standardized work instructions and structured processes.
  • Interest in contributing to research and development activities by collecting data and supporting testing when needed.

Why Work Here?

You will join a brand-new, large-scale battery cell facility at an early stage, giving you the opportunity to grow with the operation and shape its culture and processes from the ground up. The schedule offers extended periods of time off each week through rotating three- and four-day workweeks, supporting work-life balance while maintaining full-time hours. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and continuous improvement, and you will have the chance to develop your skills on advanced automated equipment and pursue long-term career advancement within a growing operation.

Work Environment

This role is based in a new, multi-billion-dollar battery manufacturing facility dedicated to producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells for grid-scale energy storage and midsize electric trucks. The plant spans a large footprint on a multi-acre campus and is designed as a high-tech, automated production environment. You will work in a clean, climate-controlled battery material unpacking area that uses computerized automated conveyors, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and rotating tables to improve ergonomics and reduce bending. The facility includes multiple levels, and you may use stairs or elevators to access the packing room and other work areas. Operators initially train on a Mondayโ€“Friday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., then transition to 12-hour rotating shifts. One crew follows a pattern of four days on and three days off, while the other follows three days on and four days off, with shifts generally running from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., repeating on a two-week cycle. The operation runs through holidays, and pay eligibility for certain holidays depends on length of employment. The workplace emphasizes strict safety protocols, including the required use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes and safety vests, and follows 5S principles to maintain a safe, organized, and orderly production environment
