Conversion Rate Optimisation information

What is conversion rate optimisation?

Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO) is the process of increasing the percentage of website visitors who take a desired action, such as making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or filling out a form. This is achieved by analyzing user behavior, testing different website elements, and implementing changes to improve user experience and encourage conversions. CRO involves strategies like A/B testing, improving website design, optimizing calls to action, and minimizing barriers to conversion. The ultimate goal is to maximize the effectiveness of a website and increase return on investment from existing traffic.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a conversion rate optimisation specialist?

To thrive as a Conversion Rate Optimisation Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of digital marketing principles, and experience with A/B testing and data interpretation, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics, Optimizely, Hotjar, and other CRO platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, creativity, and problem-solving abilities help you collaborate with teams and design effective experiments. These skills are vital for increasing website conversions, enhancing user experience, and driving business growth through data-driven decisions.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in conversion rate optimisation roles?

One common challenge in Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO) is balancing quick wins with long-term strategic improvements, as stakeholders often expect immediate results from experiments and A/B tests. Additionally, CRO specialists frequently need to navigate conflicting opinions between marketing, design, and development teams while ensuring that data-driven recommendations are implemented effectively. Another challenge is obtaining sufficient traffic and statistically significant results, which can limit the speed and confidence of decision-making. Successful CRO professionals thrive by communicating clearly, prioritizing impactful tests, and fostering a culture of experimentation within their organizations.

Job description

The human brain is the most complex object in the universe, yet society has accepted one-size-fits-all approaches to cognition. The traditional solutions, from coffee and energy drinks to borrowed prescriptions, were mediocre at best and made little sense to us. So we created Thesis, the world's first customized nootropics company.

Our products help people find the right formula for their goals and feel the difference in their daily lives. We've raised more than $14 million in venture capital, earned the attention of leading neuroscientists and athletes, and built one of the category's most recognized brands. Now we're looking for exceptional people to help us bring better cognitive support to millions more customers.

About the Role

We are hiring a Director of Digital Product to own the end-to-end digital customer experience and turn it into a durable growth engine.

This is not a traditional feature-factory product role. You will be accountable for the commercial performance of our digital experience across acquisition, education, personalization, conversion, subscription, account management, and retention. You will work closely with Growth, Creative, Brand, Lifecycle, Data, Engineering, and Operations to identify the highest-leverage customer problems, ship solutions quickly, and measure the business impact.

The right person combines strong product judgment with deep conversion-rate optimization expertise. You know how to move from customer insight to hypothesis, experiment, launch, and measurable result. You are also fluent in modern AI tools and excited to use them to accelerate research, prototyping, personalization, analysis, quality assurance, and product operations.

What You'll Own
  • Digital product strategy: Build and manage a focused roadmap for our ecommerce and subscription experiences, tied directly to revenue, conversion rate, average order value, activation, retention, lifetime value, and customer satisfaction.
  • Conversion-rate optimization: Own the CRO program across landing pages, quizzes and assessments, product detail pages, offer architecture, cart, checkout, upsells, subscriptions, and account management.
  • Experimentation: Create a rigorous, high-velocity testing system with clear hypotheses, prioritization, instrumentation, statistical discipline, decision rules, and post-test learning. Increase testing velocity without sacrificing quality.
  • Personalization: Improve how customers discover the right products, understand our science, receive recommendations, and progress through the customer journey. Use behavioral and zero-party data to make the experience more relevant.
  • AI-enabled product development: Put AI into the operating system of the team. Use it to synthesize research, analyze funnel behavior, generate and evaluate concepts, prototype experiences, automate QA, accelerate documentation, and improve decision-making.
  • Customer-facing AI: Identify and launch practical AI experiences that improve education, product discovery, personalization, support, adherence, or retention. Apply clear quality, privacy, safety, and measurement standards.
  • Analytics and instrumentation: Establish a trusted view of the funnel. Partner with Data and Engineering to ensure events, dashboards, attribution, and experiment reporting are accurate enough to make fast decisions.
  • Cross-functional execution: Turn company priorities into clear product requirements and align Growth, Creative, Lifecycle, Brand, Data, Engineering, and Operations around outcomes, owners, sequencing, and tradeoffs.
  • Platform and vendor decisions: Make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions across Shopify, subscription, experimentation, analytics, personalization, landing-page, and AI tooling.
  • Product operating cadence: Run a crisp weekly and quarterly system for discovery, prioritization, delivery, experimentation, and performance review. Surface blockers early and close loops.
  • Team development: Lead and develop a high-performing product function. Build the team and supporting capabilities as business needs grow.
What Success Looks Like

Within your first 12 months, you will have:

  • Built a prioritized digital product roadmap connected to company goals and clear financial outcomes.
  • Established reliable funnel instrumentation and a shared performance scorecard.
  • Created a repeatable experimentation engine that produces a consistent pipeline of high-quality tests and measurable incremental revenue.
  • Shipped meaningful improvements across product discovery, conversion, checkout, subscription, and account management.
  • Improved key metrics such as conversion rate, average order value, activation, retention, or lifetime value, with credible measurement of impact.
  • Deployed production AI workflows that materially increase the speed and quality of research, prototyping, analysis, QA, or product operations.
  • Launched at least one customer-facing AI or personalization capability with clear guardrails and measurable customer value.
  • Built strong operating relationships across Growth, Creative, Lifecycle, Brand, Data, Engineering, and Operations.
We're Excited About Your
  • 8+ years of product management experience, including meaningful ownership of a consumer digital product, ecommerce business, or subscription experience.
  • 3+ years leading product teams or senior cross-functional product initiatives.
  • Proven success improving ecommerce conversion and commercial outcomes through customer research, funnel analysis, experimentation, UX changes, offer development, and technical product work.
  • Deep understanding of CRO, including hypothesis development, prioritization frameworks, A/B testing, statistical interpretation, incrementality, and experimentation pitfalls.
  • Experience owning customer journeys that span acquisition, onboarding, purchase, subscription, account management, and retention.
  • Strong analytical fluency. You can diagnose a funnel, define the right metrics, pressure-test data quality, and translate findings into decisions.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools in product work. You can point to specific ways AI improved speed, quality, insight, or customer value, not just presentations about AI.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers and designers, understand technical constraints, and make thoughtful tradeoffs between speed, scalability, and customer experience.
  • High standards for execution, written communication, prioritization, and accountability.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment where you may shift between strategy, analysis, customer insight, and detailed execution in the same day.
  • Experience presenting decisions, tradeoffs, and results to senior executives.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in DTC wellness, supplements, digital health, consumer healthcare, or another regulated or trust-sensitive category.
  • Experience with Shopify, subscription commerce, landing-page platforms, experimentation tools, product analytics, lifecycle systems, and customer-data platforms.
  • Experience building personalization, recommendation, quiz, assessment, or AI-assisted customer experiences.
  • Experience managing an external development agency or a blended internal and external engineering model.
A Few of Our Perks and Benefits
  • Competitive compensation with an exceptionally generous equity package.
  • Health, dental, and vision plans with HSA, FSA, and pre-tax commuter benefits for parking and transit.
  • 401(k) to help you plan for the future.
  • Unlimited PTO and a hybrid work schedule because we respect the need for work-life harmony.
  • $100 monthly wellness stipend for your wellbeing.
  • Unlimited Thesis nootropics.
  • A strong emphasis on promoting from within and personal development.
  • A dog-friendly office in the heart of Flatiron, steps from Union Square and Madison Square Park.
Our Values
  • Find your formula: We create an environment where everyone can discover their own formula for success and fulfillment, with the resources and support to shape their path.
  • Meet your potential: We prioritize growth and development, encouraging continuous learning, adaptability, and personal transformation.
  • Create exceptional experiences: We build a culture of belonging and high standards so our team can create exceptional experiences for customers.
  • Driven by science and data: We use evidence to understand customers, evaluate our work, make better decisions, and continuously improve.
