Job description

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Electric Power Controller Leader without more than normal supervision, performing duties such as 1) Perform as a working leader for a group of journeyman Electric Power Controllers and High Voltage Electricians. Perform leadership duties and explain any unusual steps and processes. Crew supervisor and senior person in response to direct emergency services. 2) Possess journey level knowledge and skill in controlling the generation or distribution of electric power in power generating plants, power distribution centers, and substations. 3) Operation of power generation and distribution systems supporting a myriad of industrial and residential operations on the Naval base. Operates control panels that allow remote starting of diesel engine powered generators as well as monitoring commercial power and conversion to auxiliary power systems. 4) Monitoring of voltage and amperage and make exacting adjustments to the system to assure adequate power for load demands. 5) Skill in reading/analyzing a variety of interrelated meter indications to detect abnormal conditions such as, circuit overloads, improper line voltages, or equipment temperature; and skill to determine the causes of these abnormal conditions and make necessary corrections by adjusting controls.
