Job description

SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of this position is to perform the set-up/breakdown of bookings, assist where possible during a booked event, and keep all Convention/Banquet space clean and organized. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists in preparing room layout and set-up diagrams for convention center events.
  2. Interacts with other staff and event planners, and responds quickly to needs and requests.
  1. Accurate and timely room set-up according to published Banquet Event Orders and the room diagrams.
  2. After an event ends and in a timely manner breakdown the space, properly store all the equipment, and ensure the space is clean.
  3. Knowledge and safe use of chairs, tables, risers, pipe and drape, portable walls, staging, dance floor, and other portable equipment for all types of events.
  4. Is responsible for maintaining, setting up and testing all required audio visual equipment.
  5. Performs daily inspections of all Convention/Banquet facilities, machinery and equipment and notifies supervisor or manager of discrepancies or repair requests.
  1. Maintains a clean work environment free of trash or debris in event rooms, holding kitchen stage, hallways, garage, storage areas, and public spaces.
  2. Keeps service corridors and storage areas organized and unobstructed.
  3. Exercise proper storage and care of the facilities' and client's tools and equipment.
  4. Keep all storage and equipment areas in a safe, clean, and neat condition and assist in the restocking of supplies.
  5. Sweeps, dusts, wet mops floors, vacuums and steam clean carpets.
  6. Assists in loading dishwashers, inspecting dishes, glasses and flatware for cleanliness and accurately sorting all items.
  7. Attends banquet events and assists with serving customers as necessary.
  8. Notifies supervisor or manager of situations that may affect guests, associates or the Lake or the Torches Resort Casino.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned. 


POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:

  1. Internal: Continual contact with food and beverage and engineering associates. 
  1. External: Continual contact with guests and visitors. Occasional contact with suppliers. 


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Performs position responsibilities under the direct supervision of the Catering Services Supervisor or Convention Manager checking frequently for directions or questions. 

 

EDUCATION: A high school education or equivalent is required. 

 

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year experience in a convention center/banquet or customer service environment is required. 

 

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS: Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills. Must be able to manage and maintain confidential and sensitive information with diplomacy and tact. Must maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations as necessary. Must be able to get certified to operate a scissors lift. 

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Work Conditions: The majority of responsibilities are performed within the convention/banquet center with exposure to differentials in temperature.
  2. Exposure to Hazards: Controlled exposure to high temperature from cooking equipment and food preparation may occur. May be exposed to situations where hazardous chemicals, spills, wet floors or guest behaviors may create undesirable conditions. 
  3. Physical Requirements: Continual walking, bending, standing and lifting up to 100lb is required.

 

BEHAVIORS: The vision, goals and objectives of Lake of the Torches Resort Casino requires the Banquet Worker to perform in both a professional and personable manner. The manner in which the employee relates to fellow employees, customers and visitors is considered parallel in importance to technical knowledge and ability. Respect and consideration given to the dignity of each customer, visitor and fellow employee is a requisite of successful job performance.

 

OTHER: Must attend all mandatory meetings and participate in departmental training and development sessions.
