Job description

We help people navigate life's uncertainties with less fear and more clarity.
Are you detail-oriented and unfazed by an IRS notice? Imagine spending your days with a dedicated team of professionals with big hearts, valuable technology, and grand dreams - working with clients who are genuinely relieved to have you in their corner.
Frazier Law is interested in your skills, nurturing your growth, and having fun while doing it. We are a collaborative team working with clients who value our expertise - and our founder is a former IRS Revenue Agent, so you'll be learning from someone who's seen the other side of the desk.
Your Job #1 - Tax Controversy Paralegal / EA / CPA (tax):
Your primary responsibility will be to provide top-notch support on IRS and state tax controversy matters - audits, collections, penalty abatement, and appeals.
Responsibilities
  • Manage tax controversy case files from intake through resolution
  • Conduct client intake interviews and schedule consultations
  • Communicate with the IRS and state tax authorities under attorney supervision
  • Draft correspondence, CDP hearing requests (Form 12153), and other case documentation
  • Prepare and submit U.S. Tax Court petitions and related filings
  • Analyze IRS transcripts and notices to help identify the right resolution path
  • Check in with clients monthly to relay case updates and gather information
  • Organize and manage client files and deadlines
  • Coordinate with team members using online project management tools

IMPORTANT NOTE: We understand there are many facets to this role, and we don't expect perfection from day one. You'll start by mastering key tasks and gradually take on more responsibility.
Requirements
Ideal Qualifications
  • 3+ years of hands-on tax controversy experience - not just tax prep
  • Working knowledge of IRS collection and examination processes
  • Eager to learn new systems quickly
  • Ability to learn the core office and case-management toolset quickly: Microsoft Office 365, Dropbox, video conferencing, online project management tools (we use Microsoft Teams), and Clio
  • Capable communicator, written and oral - good grammar and nice manners essential for drafting professional notices, letters, and client calls
  • Professional proficiency in English
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Preferred: Availability During Central Time Zone Business Hours
  • Enrolled Agent credential, paralegal certification, or active pursuit of CPA licensure or (CPA tax)
  • Experience preparing CDP hearing requests (Form 12153) and U.S. Tax Court petitions
  • Experience submitting forms and filings directly to the IRS and U.S. Tax Court
  • Educational background in paralegal studies
  • Educational background in accounting or tax controversy coursework

Benefits
Work Environment & Schedule
  • Flexible schedule between 9 am and 5 pm, with regular availability for meetings

Terms
  • Full-time position with flexible hours; occasional remote work acceptable
  • Opportunities for growth and additional responsibility as you gain experience

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: 45000-75000 USD/year.
