Job description

Title: Controls Engineer

Shift: First Shift (7:00 to 5:00) or Off-Shift (2:00 to 11:00)

Salary: $100,000 to $110,000 per year, dependent on experience

Who we are:

We are a leading manufacturing organization in the Midwest utilizing advanced automated assembly and specialized robotic systems to deliver high-quality components. Our facility integrates sophisticated automation tech to drive daily operations and maintain strict safety standards. We are actively expanding our engineering department to provide dedicated troubleshooting support and manage floor-based automation projects.

Controls Engineer Role:

This role focuses heavily on the production floor to provide immediate technical troubleshooting and project-based engineering support for automated lines. The position exists to optimize robotic functionality, support the maintenance team, and manage specialized control systems without the primary need to write raw ladder logic.

Controls Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support on the production floor to minimize operational downtime
  • Maintain and optimize Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems and Allen Bradley controls
  • Support daily operations involving Fanuc robots and specialized Nachi robotic systems
  • Execute floor-focused controls engineering projects depending on individual technical skill sets
  • Focus on systematic troubleshooting and fault isolation rather than writing original ladder logic
  • Ensure the integrity of robotic safety features, including light curtains and automatic stop mechanisms
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team and operators to resolve complex automated system errors
  • Document modifications and control adjustments made to automated assembly cells

Controls Engineer Reporting Relationships:

This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager and does not have any direct reports.

About You:

  • Hold verified expertise with Fanuc robots, HMI platforms, and Allen Bradley systems
  • Possess experience working with Nachi robots, which is highly preferred for our daily operations
  • Demonstrate a strong floor-focused mindset with an ability to balance immediate troubleshooting and long-term projects
  • Maintain a deep understanding of manufacturing safety components such as light curtains and automated stops
  • Adapt readily to specialized equipment architectures uncommon to standard regional setups
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional technical teams to resolve equipment issues quickly
  • Commit to supporting production needs across specified shift schedules

Next Steps:

If you are an analytical controls professional and a dedicated team player, we would like to hear from you.
