Wieland is hiring a Controls Engineer. The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, support, and continuous improvement of industrial control systems, operational technology (OT), information technology (IT) infrastructure, and business systems. This role serves as the technical link between manufacturing operations, automation systems, networking and IT Systems, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient operation of production equipment and technology platforms. The position supports PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial networks, servers, cloud platforms, cybersecurity initiatives, and business systems while leading technology projects that improve equipment reliability, productivity, data integration, and operational performance. The Systems, Controls & IT Engineer collaborates across engineering, maintenance, operations, and corporate IT teams to drive digital transformation, system standardization, and continuous improvement throughout the organization. This role is located in Duncansville, PA and will be fully on-site.
Responsibilities
Controls Engineer Responsibilities:
Controls Engineering & Automation
  • Design, program, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, and industrial control systems.
  • Support manufacturing equipment, automated production lines, and process control systems.
  • Develop and maintain control system documentation, electrical schematics, and network architecture drawings.
  • Lead automation projects, equipment upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze equipment performance, identify root causes of failures, and implement corrective actions.
  • Support machine integration, data collection, and Industry initiatives.

Systems Engineering
  • Design and maintain reliable systems architecture supporting manufacturing and business operations.
  • Manage system performance, software deployments, upgrades, and technology lifecycle planning.
  • Develop standards for system configuration, maintenance, and documentation.
  • Support integration between production equipment, business systems, and cloud platforms.

Information Technology
  • Manage, support and maintain network infrastructure, servers, workstations, data backup and cloud-based services.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Support ERP, MES, CMMS, SAP, Microsoft 365 and other business-critical applications.

Operational Technology (OT) & Industrial Networking
  • Support industrial Ethernet networks, managed switches, wireless systems, and plant-floor communications.
  • Maintain connectivity between OT and IT environments while ensuring security and reliability.
  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, and OPC.
  • Monitor system health and implement performance improvements.

Cybersecurity
  • Follow cybersecurity best practices across IT and OT environments in coordination with Wieland corporate IT Team.
  • Support cybersecurity assessments, audits, and compliance requirements.

Project Management & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead capital and continuous improvement projects involving controls, systems, and IT infrastructure.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate activities with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, and operational efficiency.

Controls Engineer Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in either: Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, systems engineering, or information technology.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations and industrial networks.
  • Proven project management and troubleshooting experience via Logical Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis
  • Proficient understanding of Information Technology systems, networks and devices (PC's, Printers, Switches, Servers, Phones).
  • Cyber Security Awareness
  • Professional Communication, Leadership and Integrity
  • Proficient Controls and Networking Experience
