Job description

About usLAEPPLE Automotive is a leading supplier in the automotive industry, specializing in high-quality components and systems for body components manufacturing. Our innovative technologies and efficient production processes set benchmarks in the industry. To grow our team in Detroit, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Robotics Technician. The ideal candidate will be responsible for scheduled and unplanned installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of plant robotic assembly cells. This role requires a strong understanding of robotics technology, electrical systems, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Robotics Technicians must be willing and able to work any shift and overtime as required.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely and efficiently lead the repair of high technology manufacturing equipment, especially supporting our robotic welding and assembly processes.
  • Perform troubleshooting activities, implement corrective actions, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure capability for equipment.
  • Utilize advanced technical skills to install machinery and services.
  • Read and interpret electrical and controls schematics.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC machine controls.
  • Respond to work orders and ensure timely resolution of request, with an emphasis on prioritization and equipment uptime.
  • Inspect and maintain existing equipment to ensure production of quality products which comply with company and customer standards and specifications.
  • Monitor inventory of items required to perform both schedule and unscheduled installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, reinforcing 5S requirements.
  • Comply with standardized work instructions, recommending improvements as appropriate.
  • Adhere to Team Handbook, Quality, Safety and Environmental standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure all safety devices are properly in place, functioning as designed, and utilized.
  • Adhere to Lockout/Tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and incident reporting standards.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED, and advanced technical training in electrical and robotics.
  • Minimum of five years documented related experience.
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a Robotics Technician or similar role in automation working in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred qualifications include eight years of documented and related experience and/or completion of apprenticeship program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret and apply information from technical manuals, prints and schematics for installation, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, robotics technology, and mechanical components.
  • Ability to obtain Fork Truck and Crane Safety/Rigging certifications.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, including an ohmmeter.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Desire to work in a team-based, lean-manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Process improvement mindset.
  • Willingness to travel for training, and as other business needs may dictate.
  • Ability and willingness to work any shift, as well as overtime, as required to meet business requirements.
