Title: Controls Engineer
Location: Libertyville, IL

Job Summary:
The Controls Engineer will support the design, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of automated manufacturing equipment in a high-volume medical device production environment. This role focuses on PLC controls, SCADA systems, machine automation, electrical systems, and continuous improvement to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support PLC, HMI, SCADA, and machine control system specifications.
  • Lead installation, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and validation of automated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and improve PLC programs, machine controls, electrical systems, and automation issues.
  • Support maintenance teams with equipment troubleshooting and technical training.
  • Optimize machine performance, safety, productivity, and reliability.
  • Manage software/firmware updates, change controls, and risk assessments.
  • Support MES, vision inspection systems, and industrial communication networks.
  • Design and troubleshoot automation hardware including sensors, VFDs, servo drives, and remote I/O systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial automation/manufacturing controls.
  • Strong experience with Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, Studio 5000, RSLogix5000).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk, Ignition).
  • Knowledge of industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ProfiNet, Modbus, Fieldbus).
  • Experience with VFDs, servo motion systems, PID tuning, and machine troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of electrical controls, instrumentation, and automation systems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Medical device manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc).
  • Experience with Beckhoff/B&R/ABB PLC systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
