The Controls Engineer works to program, research, upgrade, purchase, install and maintain all controls for the manufacturing and facility equipment throughout the Marvin family of brands. The Controls Engineer will work closely with manufacturing, maintenance, engineering, systems and facility personnel to design, implement and support the needs related to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and controls throughout the organization. This position is responsible for researching, analyzing, testing existing and new control systems and technologies. Responsibilities also include working closely with vendors, suppliers, engineers and project teams to facilitate the transfer of new equipment, technologies and products to the production floor; as well as, improving machine efficiency and striving to enhance current systems to meet the needs of the future. Individual must have a thorough understanding of the organizations control systems, equipment schematics, electrical standards and safety programs to provide technical support and training to maintenance and operators

Work Schedule: 

Monday - Thursday *OT on Fridays as needed 

  • 6:00am - 4:00pm 
Highlights of your role
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment to detect hazards , problems and the need for service, repair and/or replacement of electrical and mechanical components. 
  • Proficiently use ladder logic programming with experience in the Allen Bradley platform based programming, including RS Logix 500 and 5000.  
  • Work efficiently with work order system (EAM) to document repairs and preventative maintenance throughout the plant. 
  • Traces problems using electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.  
  • Discusses performance issues and improvement ideas with pertinent technical staff. 
  • Maintains backups of programs from all electrical devices. 
  • Checks newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions. 
  • Use basic Servo Controls (open and closed loop systems) and set up variable frequency drive operations and parameters. 
  • Perform basic motor operation and troubleshooting on Servo motors, brushed DC motors, and Induction motors. 
  • Works closely with the Custom Equipment Process Group (CEPG) on machine improvements. 
  • Will have the skills to properly use a digital multimeter. 
  • Works closely with maintenance and is able to assist with troubleshooting electrical problems and able to provide PLC-support across the plant. 
  • Concisely and accurately documents set-points and parameters for equipment. 
You're a good fit if you have (or if you can)
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent 4-year degree in a related field required
  • Two or more years related experience/training required
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment and hand tools
  • Proficient ability to read and understand prints and schematics
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical and Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)
  • Working knowledge of PLC and Operator Interface programming languages is required
  • Ability to travel as required
