What you will do

As a member of the Johnson Controls Mechanical Engineering Co-Op/Intern will be responsible for various engineering activities within the compressor engineering department. Reporting to the engineering manager, interfaces directly with compressor engineers, aero engineers, technicians, test lab, and other departments within the company as needed.

Role will primarily be focused on large centrifugal compressors for York brand water cooled chillers.

How you will do it:

  • The intern will follow compressor testing, organize and analyze test data, and create reports

  • Take direction from manager and engineers, provide guidance to test operators and interface with compressor technicians. Understand and follow all relative safety procedures and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment

  • Create and execute test plans

  • Edit and maintain work guidelines and instructions for future interns to follow

  • Assist in various assigned projects within the compressor engineering function as necessary

  • At the conclusion of the internship, a brief presentation to the compressor engineering department summarizing your activities and key learnings will be required

  • Must be able to work 40 hours a week at our JADEC office in New Freedom, PA

What we look for

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited U.S. college or university

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the area of Mechanical Engineering

  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude desirable

  • Familiarity with machine design

  • Solid knowledge of thermodynamics

  • U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess strong problem solving skills and be detail oriented

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work within a team environment

  • Flexibility to work on multiple projects and coordinate priorities

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $21.00 - $24.00 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
