Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist (Setup & Operator)

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to join a growing aerospace manufacturing team. This is a hands-on role in a high-mix, low-volume production environment where every setup is different. The ideal candidate will independently perform complete machine setups, edit CNC programs, troubleshoot machining issues, and produce precision aerospace components that meet strict quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform complete CNC lathe setups from blueprint review through first article approval.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
Select appropriate tooling, workholding, speeds, and feeds for each job.
Edit and optimize G-code programs at the machine using Fanuc controls.
Machine tight-tolerance aerospace components while maintaining high quality standards.
Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.
Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and setup issues to minimize downtime.
Maintain setup sheets, tooling documentation, and inspection records.
Collaborate with engineering, quality, and programming teams to improve manufacturing processes and reduce cycle times.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of CNC lathe setup and operation experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
Strong experience with Fanuc controls.
Ability to read, edit, and write G-code.
Strong knowledge of turning operations, tooling, workholding, speeds, and feeds.
Ability to read complex mechanical drawings and interpret GD&T.
Experience producing tight-tolerance components.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lift up to 45 lbs and stand for extended periods.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience machining aerospace, defense, medical, or other high-precision components.
Experience with live tooling and multi-axis CNC lathes.
Experience in high-mix, low-volume or short-run manufacturing environments.
Technical school, apprenticeship, or trade school training.
Nice to Have
Experience operating Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs). Candidates with strong CNC lathe setup experience but limited VTL experience may still be considered.
