Automotive Controller – Mike Terry Chevrolet (Refugio, TX)

Mike Terry Chevrolet is seeking a highly skilled Automotive Controller to oversee the full financial operations of our dealership. This is a key leadership role that reports directly to ownership and plays a vital part in profitability, compliance, and operational excellence.


Summary

The Automotive Controller provides accurate, timely reporting of the dealership’s financial condition, prepares monthly and annual statements, and works closely with the General Manager to identify trends, control expenses, and improve profitability.


Responsibilities
  • Prepare complete monthly financial statements in manufacturer format and within required deadlines.

  • Monitor all manufacturer accounts, rebates, warranty claims, and co-op funds for accuracy.

  • Interpret financial statements and the daily DOC, communicating trends to the Dealer and GM.

  • Assist in preparing short- and long-term forecasts and budgets.

  • Provide department managers with detailed management and financial reports.

  • Maintain effective cash-flow management and make recommendations for the use of excess cash.

  • Review and reconcile all general-ledger and schedule accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Oversee payroll, tax filings, and adherence to federal and state financial regulations.

  • Supervise accounting office personnel, ensuring proper procedures and data integrity.

  • Coordinate annual audits and inventory reviews.

  • Manage insurance renewals, claims, and loss-control programs.

  • Continually strive to improve reporting accuracy and overall financial efficiency.


Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of Automotive Controller or senior dealership accounting experience (multi-store or GM brand experience preferred).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Strong understanding of dealership financial statements, schedules, and manufacturer requirements.

  • Proficiency with CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, or other DMS platforms.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
