Controller

Location: Lutz, FL | In-Office

A locally-owned, ready-mix concrete supplier serving the greater Tampa Bay region, with recent expansion into Ocala and Plant City. Over the past 8 years, the company has grown to three ready-mix facilities, including new locations over the past year, with additional growth planned in the next 12 months to double the size of the company. The role is based in the Lutz, FL area, where the company is currently setting up a new office.

They are seeking an experienced Controller to build a dedicated finance function during a period of significant growth. This is a newly created position — you'll have real ownership to build the processes, controls, and team the way you think they should work, with the scope of the role — and the finance department's structure itself — expected to grow right alongside the company's expansion.

    • Serve as a key partner in evaluating and implementing new accounting and payroll systems as the company grows beyond its current tools (currently QuickBooks Desktop and Paycor)
    • Identify opportunities for efficiency and process improvement, including reducing manual error, and lead future system and process implementations
    • Maintain knowledge of organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards
  • Operational
    • Process payroll — currently handled in-house through Paycor
    • Directly manage an accounting specialist who currently handles both AR and AP
    • Review accounts receivable and accounts payable, including reviewing A/P aging and processing disbursements (check runs)
    • Manage Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) and support collections oversight
    • Own cost accounting
    • Review and approve credit card and vendor payments
    • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts through month-end close
    • Maintain and improve internal control standards
  • Financial Reporting & Planning
    • Working with leadership to review financial details from past, present, and forecasted operations; identify opportunities to improve and review profitability
    • Prepare monthly financial statements and weekly KPI reports
    • Manage cash flow, including cash forecasting and treasury oversight
    • Lead the annual financial budgeting and forecasting process
    • Ensure reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP
  • Annual & Compliance
    • Lead or support the annual audit
    • Provide tax support
    • Manage banking partner relationships and bank reporting
    • Manage insurance renewals for general liability and other company policies (health insurance and workers' compensation are managed separately by HR)
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • A thorough understanding of general ledger functionality from transaction to financial statement reporting
  • Knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards
  • Hands-on experience with inventory cost accounting required
  • Ability to operate in complex and ambiguous environments, using experience to make quick, effective decisions under pressure
  • Demonstrated critical thinking to identify efficiencies or new approaches for current operating procedures
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

Education and Experience:
