Job description

Company Overview

We are partnering with a well-established custom integration company serving Southern California for more than 16 years. Built by an industry veteran with over 27 years of experience, this growing organization specializes in high-end residential technology solutions including home automation, networking, AV, lighting control, and motorized shading. They have built their reputation by delivering exceptional client experiences while continuously evolving their services and investing in both their people and technology.

Why Join Us?

This is more than another installation role—it's an opportunity to become a trusted technical expert within a company that values autonomy, integrity, and long-term relationships.

You'll join a close-knit team where:

  • You'll have the freedom to work independently without micromanagement.
  • Leadership genuinely values your ideas and is always looking for better ways to improve the business.
  • You'll have opportunities to expand your expertise into emerging technologies like lighting control and motorized shading.
  • You'll work alongside people who enjoy collaborating, helping one another, and creating a positive work environment.
  • Certifications and continued professional development are encouraged and supported because the company wants employees who grow with them—not just work for them.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Lead AV Installation Technician / Programmer who can independently execute high-end residential integration projects from installation through final commissioning.

This is not a crew lead position—you'll primarily operate on your own, taking ownership of projects, solving problems independently, and ensuring every installation meets the company's high standards. The ideal candidate is technically confident, customer-focused, organized, and motivated to continue learning as new technologies are introduced.

While experience with Savant is highly preferred, exceptional candidates with strong Control4, Crestron, or similar automation backgrounds who can quickly become Savant certified are encouraged to apply. Personality, integrity, and long-term fit are just as important as technical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Independently install, configure, and commission residential AV and automation systems
  • Program and troubleshoot Savant systems (or quickly become proficient through company-supported training)
  • Configure networking equipment and integrated home technology systems
  • Complete final system testing, commissioning, and client handoff
  • Troubleshoot complex field issues and resolve them efficiently
  • Document completed work using company software, including accurate time tracking and job notes
  • Coordinate with project managers and warehouse staff to ensure projects remain on schedule
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment
  • Stay current on emerging technologies including lighting control, motorized shading, networking, and automation platforms
  • Provide occasional mentorship to junior technicians when appropriate

What They're Looking For

Required

  • Several years of experience installing high-end residential AV or home automation systems
  • Ability to independently manage projects from start to finish
  • Strong networking knowledge
  • Experience programming or commissioning residential control systems
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Professional appearance and customer-facing communication skills
  • High integrity, accountability, and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work without constant supervision

Preferred

  • Savant certification or extensive Savant programming experience
  • Experience with Lutron lighting systems
  • Experience with Control4 or Crestron
  • Experience with motorized shades and lighting control systems
  • CTS or other industry certifications

Most importantly, they're looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team, takes pride in their work, embraces new technology, and wants to build a long-term career rather than simply finding their next job.

Benefits

  • Company vehicle
  • Health insurance
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid company holidays
  • Company-supported training and certifications
  • Long-term career growth opportunities
  • Work with cutting-edge residential technology
  • Opportunity to help shape the future of a growing company
