Hourly / Non-Exempt / Full Time
Salary Range: $31.88-$36.13 /hr (depends on applicable IBEW Trainee classification)


City Rise Utility Traffic Control

We service all Northern & Central California from multiple locations. At City Rise Utility Traffic Control, we provide high quality traffic control safety services for utility contractors, such as Flagging traffic through a work site, Lane Closures to divert traffic, or Detouring traffic to reduce traffic congestion and prevent accidents. We serve the needs of varied industries and are focused on maintaining a safe work environment for utility crews, our employees, and the public.


BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY

City Rise Utility Traffic Control employees are members of the IBEW Union. Union membership is required (enrollment facilitation available). The Traffic Control Technician Trainee will work under an experienced Traffic Control Technician directing traffic around a work zone for utility construction crews.

A Traffic Control Technician Trainee has the responsibility to protect the lives of our customers, motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and themselves on the roadway. Our workforce needs to remain flexible with their availability, as your schedule may fluctuate during peak seasons to meet customer needs, the requirements of the industry, and comes with a slow season that begins in late fall. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions
  • Assist with maintaining the day-to-day work zone set up, including assistance with setup and tear down
  • Meeting or exceeding customer, state, federal and company expectations
  • Follow company and state guidelines for effective, safe, well managed work zones
  • Drive company trucks as needed
  • Keep equipment in trucks well organized and in working order
  • Develop superior knowledge of work zone setup and professional Flagging responsibilities
  • Willingness to follow direction, maintain a quick pace
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to all customers. This includes on-time arrival and well managed work zones
  • Provide clear direction to customers and the general public moving or traveling around a work zone
  • Other duties not listed may apply


Qualifications:

  • Must have valid driver’s license for at least 3 years with a clean driving record
  • Current IBEW membership with Trainee classification
  • Ability to recognize dangers using hearing and vision, being fully engaged and alert of their surroundings
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and take safe action to avoid serious injuries to any pedestrians, vehicles, customers, and employees
  • Ability to understand traffic signals/signs, traffic plans and customer requests
  • Ability to communicate with customers, the public, and with other team members
  • Reliable Transportation with ability to commute throughout Northern California
  • Punctuality, time management and willingness to work in a team environment
  • Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions

Education and Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Flagging one year preferred
  • ATSSA Flagger Certification required
  • First Aid/CPR Certification required
  • Flexible Schedule
  • Can establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and others
  • Can work independently as needed
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and professional demeanor
  • Work in high-volume outdoor locations with multiple interruptions throughout the day

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting of heavy objects, up to 50 lbs
  • Lift, carry, push, pull and assemble traffic control materials in the proper order to manage work zone traffic
  • Stand for long periods of time in various weather conditions, and different times of day/night
  • Various noise decibel levels
  • Stooping for prolonged periods of time
  • Dexterity in the use of hand and fingers
  • Reaching, sitting, bending, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing and Vision (up close, at a distance, along the periphery)


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving vehicles and pedestrian traffic and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and loud noises. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is high.
