What you do

Be responsible for the design, configuration, and operation of complete building control systems including fire, security, and other low voltage control sub-systems (i.e., lighting, nurse call, data networks, etc.) to meet the intent of the project requirements.

Accountable to field teams for quality, timeliness and efficiency of designs. Develops complex software programs, commissioning and solving to ensure proper operations of the building control system.

Provides detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls field installation team and subcontractors.

  • Designs and configures are technically complex building control systems as defined by the contract documents. Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
  • Develop and tests software programs necessary to operate the system per the project requirements' intent.
  • Coordinates and creates necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
  • Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects.
  • Coordinates factory-mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule.
  • Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required.
  • Assists in validation of complete system functionality and solves problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
  • Provides field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software.
  • Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
  • Assists in performing site-specific training for owner/operator on the total building control system.
  • Participates in the release meeting with project field team.
  • Performs value engineering to provide cost effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • May provide work directions to Systems Design Assistants.
  • Adheres to safety standards with a high degree of employee and subcontractor safety.
  • Travel is required for this role.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and minimum 3 years' experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the construction or HVAC industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystems.
  • Experience with JCI software programming
  • Demonstrated experience in the integration of low voltage building sub-systems using various industry protocols (i.e., LON, BACnet, etc.).

What you will you do

Johnson Controls is hiring an HVAC Equipment Systems Application Engineer! In this exciting role, you will assist with pre-and-post sales activities on building systems and equipment project opportunities.

Pre-sales activities include, but are not limited to, system configuration validation, HVAC equipment and or controls selection for basis of design as well as bidding, application and pricing. This role will receive directions and coaching support from assigned account executives and sales leadership on pre-sale needs and expectations.

Post-sales activities include equipment execution that is profitable, accurate, on time, within the scope of the contract and aligning with customers' expectations. You will develop and provide detailed engineering information and submittals to communicate design, configuration, operating and installation requirements to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls service and vital subcontractors. Get ready to work with assigned sales teams to maintain an effective balance between customer satisfaction and project financial results when performing pre-sales and or post sales duties!

How will you do it

  • Provides technical support, selections and limited estimating support to Account Executives during project design or proposal phase. Assist as needed in developing the customers' reason for conceptual solution.
  • Supports detailed estimating projects for Account Executives to finalize and present to clients.
  • Validates assumptions made during the proposal and development phase. Prepares detailed cost estimate and scope of work for assigned projects in conjunction with sales. Assists in preparing proposals and other customer communication documents as well as assists with any design work required.
  • Prepares customers proposals quote letters for assigned projects, includes project takeoff's specification review, special quote generation and RFQ and RFI issuance.
  • Manages project Profit & Loss (P&L) of all assigned projects, accomplishes this using the Johnson Controls equipment order execution process, including execution of the equipment orders, etc. Also, by working closely with the branch to manage backlog execution, schedule and forecast execution of equipment projects for up to two years in advance.
  • Verifies the approval submittal, configuration acceptance by the installation contractor prior to leasing equipment for fabrication. Very carefully evaluates the contractual scope of supply and the impact of client-issued bulletins, field directives and or scheduling changes and coordinates accordingly.
  • Works on preparing change order proposals with the sales team, and in that process performs all related tasks.
  • Coordinates the factory equipment order process to ensure technical and commercial compliance with contract documents and site requirements.
  • Responsible for generating technical content Purchase Orders, for all material and equipment, selects orders and tracks the delivery of the materials and equipment for all assigned projects working very closely with all parties, including the customer.
  • Effectively communicates project progress including financials to all management team members that have a need to know.
  • Reviews and process all invoices for payment all related to assigned projects, as well as working very closely with the operations team toaddress any billing or collection issues are done in a timely manner.
  • As requested, conducts customers' sites visits to ensure delivery and receipt of critical equipment meet all compliance of Johnson Controls and the customer owner.
  • Maintains viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors and subcontractors and attends all vital meetings.
