Job description

SEL designs and manufactures products that protect, monitor, control, and automate electric power systems. Our solutions help utilities, cooperatives, municipalities, and industrial facilities operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. We are hiring an Outside Sales Professional to support customers in Alaska. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, solving customer problems, and managing a diverse territory.

As a Sales Engineer - Power Systems a typical day might include the following:

  • Develop new business by identifying, engaging, and building relationships with prospective customers across Alaska.

  • Grow existing accounts by understanding customer challenges and helping them select SEL solutions that provide long-term system value.

  • Plan and execute a territory strategy, maintaining organized notes, clean CRM entries, and clear next steps for every customer.

  • Engage customers consistently through scheduled visits, follow-up conversations, technical discussions, and coordination with application engineers.

  • Support pilot and evaluation activities for SEL protection, automation, and communication solutions by helping customers understand the process and keeping progress on track.

  • Coordinate internally with engineering, sales leadership, commercial teams, and operations staff to ensure a consistent and positive customer experience.

  • Provide accurate sales forecasts and communicate progress toward goals with clarity and ownership.

  • Gather and share market insights on customer needs, system issues, and industry trends to support regional strategy.

  • Assist with customer concerns by facilitating communication and connecting the right SEL resources.

  • Use CRM tools to maintain accurate customer history, opportunity status, and activity documentation.

This job might be for you if you:

  • Have 2+ years of successful B2B sales experience in a technical, industrial, or service-oriented field, OR relevant customer-facing experience with strong sales aptitude.

  • Have strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with customers in utilities, municipalities, co-ops, and industrial sectors.

  • Are willing and able to learn technical concepts through SEL's training and mentorship.

  • Are organized with consistent follow-through; comfortable managing multiple customer relationships.

  • Have the ability to travel approximately 75% across Alaska.

  • Are able to work independently while collaborating closely with teammates and engineering resources.

Other preferred qualifications are...

  • Experience in technical sales, field service, industrial operations, controls, or systems integration. SEL will provide technical training and mentoring needed to understand and apply our product solutions, but knowledge of power systems is preferred.

  • Exposure to electrical systems, industrial automation, SCADA, PLCs, communications, or power system operations.

  • Familiarity with medium-voltage equipment, protection concepts, or utility/industrial processes.

  • Experience using CRM tools to manage territory, track activities, and maintain disciplined sales processes.

  • Technical curiosity with demonstrated ability to learn new concepts quickly including communications, controls, or protection fundamentals.

  • Background in military technical roles, electrical trades, apprenticeships, lineman/journeyman programs, instrumentation, automation, or communications technology.

  • Advanced education in business, engineering technology, industrial management, controls, or telecommunications (degree or certification).

Pay Range Data

New hires generally start with a base salary between $95,000 - $160,000 per year. We base our starting pay offer on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
