Job description

Purpose:
The Dining Room Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Director of Dining Services with the coordination, seating, appearance and maintenance of the dining area and server stations ensuring that courteous and efficient services are delivered. Must be able to handle situations as they arise, to assure quality service is provided at all times.
Job Duties:
  1. Dining Room Supervisor supervises the physical appearance of the dining room area and server stations including table pedestals, table place settings, chairs, floors, drapes and lighting
  2. Coordinates the seating of the residents and guests in an efficient, courteous manner
  3. Schedules stations and work assignments for the wait staff to make sure standards are met
  4. Records meal counts, reservations and additional charges
  5. Confers with Dining Room Supervisor regarding dining room status
  6. Must be present, prompt and able to perform the required duties of the position on a regular, predictable basis
  7. Responsible for supervising the closing of the dining rooms and checking the servers to be sure the side work and station setup is properly completed
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety procedures and assists with the evacuation of residents to a safe location in the even of fire or other emergency

Other Duties:
  1. Assists in implementation of policy and procedures of the dining room
  2. Assists in providing on-the-job training for dining room personnel
  3. Waits tables and provides beverage and bar services as needed
  4. Participates in cost control measures
  5. Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned
  6. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:
  1. High school graduate preferred
  2. A minimum of one-year Host/Hostess or Lead Server experience within restaurant, club, hotel or similar institution
  3. Ability to interpret and explain menu, refer or answer questions, coordinate meal service process and understand requests
  4. Ability to communicate with, understand, empathize with, work with, and be tolerant of residents, families, visitors, peers, supervisors and subordinates

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
To fulfill job requirements, associate must be able to perform key physical tasks for extended periods of time. Proper body mechanics and safety measures as prescribed by the community must be used.
In a typical eight- hour day, associate:
  • Must be able to stand and walk 90% of the work day
  • Have the ability to stoop, bend and stretch frequently
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to see, hear and speak
