Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing technician-level engineering activities in support of the development of new automated systems to support MSD’s consumables manufacturing production. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assemble, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair precision electronic and electro-mechanical devices independently or in high-level consultation with engineers
  • Build and wire complex control panels and systems based on drawings, instructions and guidelines
  • Design, fabricate, and assemble test fixtures and prototype systems
  • Source electronic and mechanical components based on required performance specifications
  • Lead and/or substantially contribute to the development of product assembly, test, calibration, and repair procedures
  • Maintain tool and equipment inventories for R&D work
  • Maintain component inventory for prototype systems
  • Understand and follow laboratory safety precautions and ensure compliance with company safety policies
  • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates’ degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
    • Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience.
  • Experience with prototype or low volume electro-mechanical systems preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Strong mechanical/electrical fundamentals and aptitude
  • Ability to operate test and assembly tools and equipment including: multi-meters, soldering and de-soldering tools, inspection equipment, and various machine-shop, hand, and power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Route wiring using knowledge of standard wiring practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of proper wire stripping, termination, crimping and terminal block installation
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot panels
  • Isolate faulty panel components
  • General computer skills, including Windows, MS Office, email, internet, software installation, and basic computer setup. Working knowledge of Excel for basic manipulation and analysis of test data.
  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact schedules, accuracy and reliability of data, and product quality
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding environment with changing priorities
    • Ability to independently complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the workplace
  • Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

This position is performed in a traditional production environment and/or light-manufacturing facility.

COMPENSATION SUMMARY

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $59,100 to $87,900. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
