What to Expect
As a Senior Automation Engineer based out of our Denver office, you will be the on-site automation expert supporting the Integrated Control Center (ICC) designing, implementing, and optimizing process control solutions that enhance operational efficiency, safety, and reliability across large, complex systems. This is a seasoned, standalone role for someone who can operate independently, partner with diverse stakeholders, lead capital projects end-to-end, and bring deep technical judgment to large-scale gas plant and process control challenges.
What You'll Do
  • Independently lead the design, programming, configuration, testing, and implementation of process automation solutions for large, complex systems (e.g., full gas plant builds, high-IO-count installations, integrated PLC/HMI/server architectures)
  • Lead and execute capital projects for automation systems end-to-end, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company guidelines
  • Analyze business processes and recommend automation strategies, including lifecycle management and optimization
  • Develop reusable automation scripts, frameworks, and smart workflows to replicate and improve processes
  • Architect, implement, and support distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote terminal units (RTUs), and human-machine interfaces (HMIs)
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and enhance automation equipment and systems, ensuring safety and reliability
  • Conduct technical studies, feasibility reviews, and process hazard analyses
  • Lead integration efforts for data collection and system optimization
  • Support and implement information security measures
  • Produce and maintain automation system documentation
  • Lead alarm rationalization efforts, implement results, and monitor alarm system performance
  • Build out and support remote operations applications and OT systems
  • Maintain operational effectiveness through control loop tuning and loop health analysis
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to other engineers and technicians, sharing best practices and elevating team capability
  • Respond to after-hours and weekend support requests as needed
  • Travel to facilities as needed

What You'll Bring - Required
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 5 or more years of relevant automation engineering experience
  • Advanced PLC/DCS proficiency
  • Advanced control loop tuning and loop health analysis proficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and design automation systems independently
  • Ability to mentor and lead other engineers/technicians on technical work
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to:
    • Travel up to 25% to facilities and project sites
    • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, in support of after-hours and on-call needs
    • Operate a company vehicle on site premises and/or public roads
    • Work safely in industrial environments, around large machinery, chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in varying weather conditions
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment when on site

What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred
  • 7 or more years of relevant automation engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience leading automation on large, complex systems - e.g., full gas plant builds, high-IO-count installations, or integrated PLC/HMI/server architectures
  • Proven track record mentoring or formally leading engineers and technicians in a senior/lead capacity
  • Prior experience supporting an Integrated Control Center (ICC) or remote operations environment
  • Experience with alarm rationalization, OT systems, and capital project leadership end-to-end
  • Experience supporting midstream gas processing, gathering, or pipeline operations
