Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac/Vascular Stepdown Unit (CVU) position requiring NE state or compact RN licensure and at least 1 year of relevant patient population experience.

Details
  • Work in a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital setting within the Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) stepdown
  • 18-bed unit supporting intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients
  • Cares for patients with cardiac and vascular diagnoses including CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR, and those from Cath Lab, EP, thoracic, and structural heart programs
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
  • RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips; remote tele techs and hardwired tele/tele box capabilities are also available
  • Charge nurse present on each shift, rarely taking a patient assignment
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:18 ratio
  • Hospitalist and intensivist in house 24/7, with Cardiology on call after hours
  • Respiratory Therapy in house 24/7, with RNs troubleshooting BiPAP, CPAP, and Nasal Cannula equipment
  • 12-hour night shifts (0630-1900, 1830-0700) scheduled by the manager with no block or self-scheduling
  • Every other weekend required
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating required to units of the same or lower acuity level
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • 36 hours per week guaranteed
  • 13-week assignment length
Requirements
  • Active RN license, State or Compact (NLC), for Nebraska required and must be active (not pending) at time of submission
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (active, not pending)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac/vascular stepdown patient population required
  • Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Artificial nails are prohibited for all patient care staff
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residency
Additional Information
  • Provide intermediate cardiac and vascular nursing care to stepdown and downgraded CVICU patients
  • Navy blue scrubs required per unit dress code
  • Unit-specific orientation tailored to experience level, typically 1-2 shifts
  • RNs must pass a pass/fail, open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% or contract will be terminated
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
  • PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront for the 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
  • Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
