Job description

The Application Engineer III will focus on complex wastewater and process water solutions across markets such as microelectronics, food & beverage, mining, power, pulp & paper, and chemical processing. The wastewater systems typically consist of equalization, pH neutralization, chemical precipitation, clarification, Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF), media filtration, ultra filtration, reverse osmosis, sludge thickening and dewatering. The process water systems typically consist of media filtration, softening, carbon filtration, ultra filtration, reverse osmosis, Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems, regenerable Ion Exchange (IX), and Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI).

Operates in a mostly independent capacity, with support from Application Engineer IVs and supervisor, determining proper design and approach for solving customer requirements. May support developing engineers in a mentor capacity when needed.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Work primarily with the direct sales team

Review RFQs and technical specifications

Perform process design calculations

Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Process & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs)

Prepare mass balances and water balances

Perform hydraulic calculations and pump sizing

Equipment selection and material selection which can be used for costing

Identify technical and commercial risks

Develop conceptual, budgetary and firm proposals

Present technical solutions to customers

Support bid/no-bid and go/no-go decisions

Train and mentor other engineers

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1. FORMAL EDUCATION:

Requires BS/BA degree in Chemical Engineering; Master's degree preferred

4+ yrs of experience

Ability to conduct and understand water quality projections.

Advanced competency in multiple standard equipment platforms and their employment. Thorough understanding of common components and their application.

Able to execute complex tasks with limited guidance.

Effectively collaborates with other disciplines in a team environment.

Solid understanding of the sales process and how organizational role influences outcome.

Solid understanding of financial principles related to proposals, costing, business outcome and risk mitigation.

Solid understanding of contractual terms and conditions.

Advanced ability to develop execution strategy while mitigating business risk.

Possesses excellent communications skills and can effectively present technical information in a customer setting.
