Position Summary

The E&I Planner – Utilities position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and preparing electrical and instrumentation maintenance work to support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of utility systems. This role develops detailed job plans, coordinates resources, manages maintenance work orders, and supports preventive, predictive, corrective, and outage maintenance activities. The E&I Planner works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Purchasing, and Contractors to ensure work is properly scoped, planned, ready to be scheduled, and executed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed work packages for electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities.
  • Review work requests and determine required scope, labor, materials, tools, permits, and safety requirements.
  • Create and maintain job plans within the CMMS system (SAP).
  • Prioritize work based on equipment criticality, safety impact, production requirements, and available resources.
  • Manage E&I maintenance backlog and ensure work orders are properly planned and ready for execution.
  • Ensure all work plans include appropriate safety requirements.
  • Support lockout/tagout, permitting, and hazard identification processes.
  • Promote safe work practices and compliance with company policies, governmental regulations, and NFPA 70E.
  • Participate in safety improvement initiatives.
  • Identify required parts, materials, and special tools.
  • Develop labor estimates and work duration estimates.
  • Coordinate procurement of materials and outside services.
  • Enter new parts into SAP and build and maintain Bills of Materials for the equipment.
  • Ensure drawings, manuals, procedures, and technical documentation are available.
  • Support outage planning, including contractor coordination and execution readiness

Required Experience:

  • Plan maintenance activities for utility equipment including:
    • Electrical distribution systems
    • Motors and drives
    • MCCs and control panels
    • PLC/DCS systems
    • Instrumentation and control loops
    • Boilers, steam systems, water systems, wastewater systems, air systems, fire alarm systems and supporting utility department equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts by ensuring accurate equipment history and documentation.
  • Assist with reliability improvement initiatives and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain accurate equipment records and maintenance history.
  • Create and update preventive maintenance (PM) tasks.
  • Track completion of planned work and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Monitor maintenance KPIs such as:
    • Backlog aging
    • Equipment reliability trends
    • Planning readiness/completion

Preferred Experience:

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, or related field.
  • Electrical, instrumentation, industrial maintenance, or related technical experience preferred.
  • Journeyman electrician or instrumentation background.
  • Experience with PLCs, DCS, VFDs, process controls, and industrial networks.
  • Maintenance planning or scheduling experience
  • Experience using CMMS systems (SAP).
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and equipment documentation.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
