Job description

Job Description:

Join Capstone's Energy Practice, where we serve as the trusted advisor to private equity firms and their portfolio companies navigating all aspects of the energy sector. We provide critical insights and strategic support across the entire investment lifecycle - from deal sourcing and due diligence through value creation and exit optimization.

This is one of Capstone's largest and highest-revenue practices, offering a dynamic opportunity to work at the intersection of private equity and the energy sector. You will collaborate closely with our energy analysts in Houston, New York, and Washington, D.C., who support client engagement with deep sector expertise.

Position: Vice President, Private Equity Business Development Energy

We are seeking an experienced Business Development professional to identify, cultivate, and close new business opportunities with private equity firms investing in the energy sector and their portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and target private equity firms with active energy investment strategies, including buyout, growth equity, and infrastructure funds.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with PE partners, principals, operating partners, and portfolio company executives.
  • Develop account strategies for key clients, understanding their investment approach, portfolio needs, and value creation timelines.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships to capture repeat business opportunities across multiple deals and portfolio companies.
  • Monitor PE deal activity across energy subsectors, including renewables, oil & gas, power generation, utilities, and clean technology.
  • Generate and qualify new business leads across the investment lifecycle, from due diligence to value creation and exit support.
  • Collaborate closely with Capstone's energy analysts to align client needs with the firm's advisory capabilities.
  • Represent Capstone at private equity and energy industry conferences, networking events, and client meetings to expand the firm's visibility and relationships.
  • Build and maintain relationships with investment bankers, consultants, and other professional services providers in the energy investment ecosystem.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of business development experience selling professional or advisory services. It would be a plus if these are selling to private equity firms.
  • Proven track record of generating $4-6M+ in annual new business revenue.
  • Strong consultative sales approach with excellent executive communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of the energy sector and PE investment processes preferred.
  • Comfortable with travel (30%+) for client engagement.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
