Job description

Job Title: IV Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

The IV Pharmacy Technician prepares sterile IV and other pharmaceutical solutions in a clean room environment using proper sterile compounding techniques. This role focuses on accurate, safe, and compliant drug preparation and inventory management, with no direct patient-facing responsibilities and strong opportunities for growth and advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare IV and other pharmaceutical preparations using proper sterile compounding techniques in accordance with established procedures.

  • Adhere to all documented instructions, warnings, procedures, and best practices to ensure safe and effective drug preparation.

  • Perform environmental monitoring, sanitation, and testing activities as required by applicable federal and state pharmacy regulations and USP 797 standards.

  • Maintain accurate drug inventory through purchasing, receiving, stocking, pulling, counting, and tracking drug items in line with established policies and procedures.

  • Clean the ante-room and clean room according to USP 797 standards and maintain all required clean room logs.

  • Verify lot numbers and perform periodic checks of inventory to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Work efficiently and independently while contributing effectively as a member of the pharmacy team.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and other stakeholders.

  • Utilize computer systems and software to support compounding, documentation, and inventory management tasks.

  • Prioritize tasks and manage workload effectively in a fast-paced work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Active Tennessee state pharmacy technician license.

  • National pharmacy technician certification.

  • Demonstrated sterile compounding techniques and understanding of aseptic procedures.

  • Experience working in a clean room environment.

  • Knowledge of USP 797 standards and sterile compounding regulations.

  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory through purchasing, receiving, stocking, and tracking drug items.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks.

  • Ability to work independently while functioning as an effective team member.

  • Clear and articulate verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to function efficiently in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Proficiency with computer systems and basic software applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.

  • Home infusion therapy experience is preferred but not required.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining sterile and compliant work practices.

  • Ability to follow detailed procedures, instructions, and documentation requirements.

  • Willingness to learn and grow within the pharmacy environment, with room for advancement.

Work Environment

This position is based in a clean room environment that requires full personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to sterile compounding protocols. Team members must follow strict attire guidelines, including no makeup and no jewelry, to maintain sterility and compliance. The role is non-patient facing and supports a focused, professional setting dedicated to safe medication preparation. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., offering consistent daytime hours and a structured environment with clear procedures and regulatory standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
