Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Revenue Accounting to lead our global revenue accounting function and ensure full compliance with U.S. GAAP (ASC 606) and other applicable accounting standards. This role blends deep technical accounting expertise with operational leadership, focusing on designing, optimizing, and scaling the end-to-end Order-to-Cash (O2C) process in a high-growth environment.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on finance leader with strong systems knowledge and a proven ability to build scalable revenue processes across global organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Accounting & Technical Expertise

  • Lead end-to-end global revenue accounting operations, ensuring timely, accurate, and ASC 606-compliant revenue recognition.
  • Draft, maintain, and enhance technical accounting policies for complex revenue transactions, new product offerings, pricing changes, and contractual models.
  • Assess and account for complex revenue arrangements, including multielement contracts, usagebased billing, enterprise agreements, and U.S. government contracts.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for revenue, deferred revenue, A/R, and related accounts.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Sales, FP\&A, and Deal Desk to evaluate nonstandard contract terms, including public-sector requirements.
  • Ensure strong internal controls across revenue and O2C processes.
  • Monitor new accounting guidance and evaluate its organizational impact.
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert on revenue accounting for internal stakeholders and external auditors.

Order-to-Cash (O2C) Process Design & Optimization

  • Lead the design and continuous improvement of the full O2C process-from contract intake to billing, revenue recognition, cash application, and collections.
  • Develop scalable controls across the revenue lifecycle, including publicsector considerations.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement enhancements to ERP systems, billing platforms, and revenue automation tools.
  • Partner with Sales, Legal, IT, and Revenue Operations to streamline processes, strengthen controls, reduce cycle times, and optimize cash flow.
  • Lead system implementations and automation initiatives integrating CRM, billing, and general ledger systems.
  • Establish key metrics, dashboards, and tracking mechanisms to monitor process performance, billing accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Strategic Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing revenue accounting team with clear expectations, development paths, and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with leaders in FP\&A, Tax, Sales, Legal, and Revenue Operations to align revenue reporting with business strategy.
  • Represent revenue accounting in cross-functional initiatives, influencing contract terms, pricing strategies, and monetization approaches.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on revenue performance, emerging risks, and compliance considerations.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • CPA strongly preferred.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in revenue accounting.
  • Deep technical expertise in ASC 606.
  • Experience designing and optimizing O2C processes and internal controls.
  • Proven track record managing external audits and maintaining SOX compliance.
  • Strong ERP systems experience (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in subscriptionbased, technology, or manufacturing companies.
  • Public company or global finance experience.
  • Experience leading large-scale finance or operational transformation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with government customers (federal, state, local), including public-sector contract structures and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills and executive-level communication and presentation abilities.

Soft Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, including coaching and talent development.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and manage multiple priorities.

Technology Stack

  • ERP systems: NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar.
  • Revenue automation tools (e.g., Zuora, RevPro, Chargebee) preferred.
  • CRM systems such as Salesforce.
  • Advanced Excel and proficiency with financial reporting tools.
  • Experience with billing systems and data integration platforms.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a standard office environment.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, and mouse for extended periods.
  • Ability to participate in virtual meetings and collaborate across global time zones as needed.
