*The Office of Academic Affairs, URecFit and Wellness have an opportunity for part time, contractual Lifeguards (Contingent Category I Contractual Employment) in the SMC Campus Center.*URecFit and Wellness is committed to enriching the academic experience as well as encouraging the physical, mindful, cultural, spiritual, emotional, and social development of the UMB community. Under general supervision, Lifeguard will maintain constant watch of patrons in the pool to ensure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Work requires outstanding communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. The selected candidate will exercise discretion and judgement with considerable consequence of error. *UMB is a public university and constituent institution of the University System of Maryland. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland. * This position is a non-benefited, Contingent Category I Contractual position; Mostly weekday with evening and weekend work required Lifeguard * Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director and Coordinator for Aquatics the primary duties will be: * Maintain constant watch of patrons in the pool and enforces all safety standards * Act immediately and appropriately to ensure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. * Inspect facility and equipment regularly and report issues. * Perform various maintenance and custodial duties as assigned. * Perform facility checks in the locker rooms, on the pool deck, and other areas adjacent to the pool. * Maintain a clean and safe environment. * Attend all in service training and meetings. /*The selected candidate will be expected to uphold URecFit Core Values */ Community- We believe in creating a safe, accessible, sustainable, and inclusive environment where everyone can feel a sense of belonging. CPR, AED, and First Aid certification is required. *Other:*Complete a 100-yard untimed, continuous swim test, 2-minute treading, and 10-lb. brick retrieval with 20-yard swim. Applicants must be 15 years old or older and pass a background check. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to apply basic analytical skills; to operate manual and automated office equipment, personal computers, and spreadsheet software to input data; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation. Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Current lifeguard certification including CPR, AED, and First Aid by a nationally recognized agency (American Red Cross, etc.) or willingness to obtain. *Hiring Range:*Hourly rate for this position the Lifeguard is $16.00.
