Job description

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking an Environmental Remediation Engineer (Project Manager, Senior Project Manager or Senior Consultant) in our Manhattan or Melville, NY office. The role involves designing and implementing remediation systems, managing projects, including staff, budgets, and schedules, interpreting data, mentoring junior engineers, business development, and maintaining client relationships. The ideal candidate for this position is a seasoned environmental consulting professional with the motivation and desire to foster technical excellence and strong client relationships and lead a team of talented engineers and scientists.

As an Environmental Remediation Engineer, you will work with a staff of interrelated professionals dedicated to providing high-level expertise on complex projects above, below, and at ground-level. You will mentor project engineers to successfully execute all aspects of projects under your guidance.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Managing and mentoring a team of existing project engineers and scientists
  • Perform a wide range of environmental engineering analysis and design tasks related to: planning, environmental site investigation (subsurface and hazardous materials), remediation design and remedial operations
  • Supervise the development of project plans, design calculations, plans and specifications, engineering cost estimates, and coordinate with other disciplines as required to deliver quality engineering services
  • Coordination and presentation of design submissions with clients and regulatory agencies
  • Working with your staff of professionals to provide environmental remedial engineering expertise on GZA projects including evaluation of remedial options, development and implementation of remedial designs, and cost estimates
  • Staff interviewing/hiring, training, mentoring and staff performance evaluation
  • Conducting internal and client communications
  • Monitoring team performance for compliance with contractual agreements and budgets
  • Leading business development activities with support and assistance from colleagues and GZA corporate marketing and communications team
  • Preparing proposals and reviewing/writing environmental reports and obtaining technical QA/QC reviews
  • Managing project contractual and financial issues (including terms of agreement, changes in scope, billing process)
  • Conducting/reviewing technical analyses/calculations
  • Participating in meetings and agency consultation
  • Additional job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • New York Professional Engineer Licenses
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering plus an MS
  • 10-15 years of relevant environmental consulting experience
  • Technical expertise in design of a wide variety of remedial systems
  • LNAPL and chlorinated hydrocarbon contaminant investigation and remediation experience
  • Knowledge of applicable New York laws and regulations
  • Strong desire and ability to train and lead a team of junior professionals
  • Possess the ability to maintain strong and consistent outreach to clients
  • Demonstrate professional judgment, consistency, strong attention to detail, and background of high-quality work products
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with statistical review of data
  • Experience preparing reports that demonstrate technical knowledge
  • Experience in project budgeting and financial management
  • Published technical papers a plus
  • Strong interest in safety
  • Possess or have completed 40-hour and 8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training

The base salary for this position may range between $105,000.00 to $165,000.00. The actual base salary and total compensation will depend on many factors, including location, candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualifications.
