Job description

ERM is hiring Environmental Compliance Manager's to support a key client's operations in Albany, Syracuse or Buffalo, NY. The role holders will be responsible for supporting our clients' Environmental Compliance program on a regional basis and/or electric and gas projects through design and construction. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) limited-term role with a duration of 12 months, extendable.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and manage environmental aspects of projects during planning, design and construction
  • Manage environmental due diligence in support of property transactions and third-party access requests
  • Support field work on third-party properties including those with environmental regulatory encumbrances (e.g., Site Management Plans)
  • Serve as regulatory liaison and provide onsite presence during regulatory agency inspections
  • Respond to environmental incidents (e.g., oil and chemical releases) and develop site remediation plans
  • Support root-cause analysis related to environmental incidents and implement corrective actions
  • Conduct and document periodic inspections of operating yards, electric substations, fleet garages, generating plants, gas regulating stations, rights of way, and other company properties to ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., waste storage areas, bulk chemical and petroleum tanks, emergency generators, oil/water separators, and other operational equipment)
  • Maintain accurate environmental documentation (e.g., waste contingency plans, spill prevention, control and countermeasures plans, manifests, bulk storage registrations)
  • Coordinate waste characterization sampling and laboratory analysis of various media to assess waste profile and disposal options, and arrange for waste transportation and disposal
  • Facilitate and champion recycling of electric and gas assets through Investment Recovery department
  • Provide technical support for managing data and documents pertinent to stakeholder communications, project schedules, environmental issues, studies, and expenditures.
  • Identify and mitigate environmental risk and coordinate key initiatives.

Successful candidates will:
  • Communicate effectively with regulators and technical/non-technical audiences
  • Work independently, manage priorities, and organize workloads with moderate guidance
  • Build strong working relationships with Operations, Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Legal, Real Estate, Safety and other personnel to share best practice and communicate business decisions
  • Manage high work volumes
  • Apply sound problem-solving skills to analyze data, draw inferences, and make recommendations
  • Maintain knowledge regarding applicable regulations and client Environmental Procedures and ISO 14001 program. RCRA, TSCA, PBS, SPCC, solid waste, SPDES knowledge a plus.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental/civil engineering, environmental science, or related field
  • Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance practices
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management experience
  • RCRA, DOT, and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training a plus.

Pay Transparency:
For the Environmental Compliance Manager position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $103,967 - $132,573, $49.98/hr - $63.73/hr USD, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee's fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible).
